[2007.03.27 16:59:52] Hang out in the Lobby before the chat. This room is unmoderated and will close 2 minutes before chat time. See you in the Chat Room!
[2007.03.27 16:59:52] Shopaholic Chick has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 17:00:06] Shopaholic Chick: hiya
[2007.03.27 17:06:02] jlynn has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 17:06:11] Shopaholic Chick: hi jlynn
[2007.03.27 17:06:18] jlynn: hi shopaholic
[2007.03.27 17:06:29] Shopaholic Chick: this will stay open until they are ready to begin
[2007.03.27 17:06:34] jlynn: didn't realize i was an hour early, oooopsi
[2007.03.27 17:06:37] Shopaholic Chick: but in the meantime we can chat
[2007.03.27 17:06:45] Shopaholic Chick: LOL yeah i did that yesterday
[2007.03.27 17:06:56] Shopaholic Chick: yesterday by 45 minutes early there were 30 people in here
[2007.03.27 17:07:03] Shopaholic Chick: this room will get people soon
[2007.03.27 17:07:23] jlynn: i have never been to a cafepress chat
[2007.03.27 17:07:34] jlynn: but i wanted to know more about this chat
[2007.03.27 17:07:48] Shopaholic Chick: well this chat is about the new migrated affiliate program
[2007.03.27 17:08:13] Shopaholic Chick: last night they had the first chat which if you want to read the official chat and the lobby chat theya re on my cafe chatter blog
[2007.03.27 17:08:40] Shopaholic Chick: tonight they are supposed to tell us how this new CJ affiliate thing is supposed to work
[2007.03.27 17:09:01] jlynn: i am still not for sure if i want to go to cj
[2007.03.27 17:09:21] jlynn: i should have been here last night, it might of helped my decision
[2007.03.27 17:09:44] jlynn: are you going to go to cj?
[2007.03.27 17:09:55] Shopaholic Chick: well heres the thing
[2007.03.27 17:10:05] Shopaholic Chick: if your opted in to the marketplace - CJ will be able to send to you
[2007.03.27 17:10:19] Shopaholic Chick: but where we are being screwed is that CP did not incestigate enough
[2007.03.27 17:10:40] Shopaholic Chick: CJ charges for datafeeds transfers - so they are only sending the top 600,000 designs into CJ
[2007.03.27 17:10:40] i'm still sick has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 17:10:47] Shopaholic Chick: lol still sick huh???
[2007.03.27 17:11:12] Shopaholic Chick: i do not know if i will join CJ
[2007.03.27 17:11:21] Shopaholic Chick: but i know i will lose 25% of my traffic
[2007.03.27 17:11:32] Shopaholic Chick: because 25% of my sales come from other shops linking to my shop
[2007.03.27 17:11:33] jlynn: one thing that i would miss, i assume i would miss it, is if i went to cj then all the links on my external site, which leads to my cp site....
[2007.03.27 17:11:38] Shopaholic Chick: and without the affiliate program thatw ill stop
[2007.03.27 17:11:54] jlynn: if someone follows it, then decides to buy something else when they get here, i will not get the commision
[2007.03.27 17:11:56] Shopaholic Chick: well you can still link offsite to your own site
[2007.03.27 17:12:06] Shopaholic Chick: but you CANNOT link offsite to your own site with your CJ pid in it
[2007.03.27 17:12:24] Shopaholic Chick: and you cannot link out to another site from your CP site with your CJ pid in it
[2007.03.27 17:12:33] jlynn: right, but currently i do, so that way my pid is attached, and if they wonder to someone elses site, then i get the commision
[2007.03.27 17:12:50] Shopaholic Chick: so like if you have a favorites section in CP - you cant just replace the affiliate PID with the CJ affiliate code
[2007.03.27 17:12:54] Romy has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 17:13:06] Shopaholic Chick: yeah well you cant do that anymore
[2007.03.27 17:13:11] Shopaholic Chick: thats the problem
[2007.03.27 17:13:18] Shopaholic Chick: but cafepress does not understand that
[2007.03.27 17:13:36] jlynn: it makes me not want to put my own stuff on my own site
[2007.03.27 17:13:37] Shopaholic Chick: well they do but because CJ will be paying seperate there is not way for them to prevent double dipping
[2007.03.27 17:14:02] Shopaholic Chick: well i am screwed because i just made a huge affiliate site with over 8,000 designs on it
[2007.03.27 17:14:08] Shopaholic Chick: thats over 8,000 links to change
[2007.03.27 17:14:10] jlynn: oh that is bad
[2007.03.27 17:14:27] Shopaholic Chick: i just made www.shopaholic-chick.com
[2007.03.27 17:14:37] i'm still sick has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 17:14:40] jlynn: i haven't did much lately, i am prego, and haven't felt very creative or shop oriented
[2007.03.27 17:14:50] Shopaholic Chick: from the looks of it when debbie left last year - no one picked up what she was doing they just let it go to hell
[2007.03.27 17:14:57] i'm still sick has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 17:15:03] Shopaholic Chick: i am writing my thesis right now so i havent had much time
[2007.03.27 17:15:06] Shopaholic Chick: which is why i a pissed
[2007.03.27 17:15:21] Shopaholic Chick: if i had known a month ago i would not have wasted 2 weeks on that site i would have spent it in my shop
[2007.03.27 17:15:57] jlynn: you have a very nice site, i like the colors alot
[2007.03.27 17:16:45] Shopaholic Chick: thanks
[2007.03.27 17:16:54] Shopaholic Chick: i am debating if i wanna keep it or not
[2007.03.27 17:17:14] Carl: Hello, fellow unhelpful comment makers
[2007.03.27 17:17:17] jlynn: there is so much work there, seems like such a shame
[2007.03.27 17:17:21] jlynn: hi carl
[2007.03.27 17:17:46] Carl: I moved all my crap offsite a month ago
[2007.03.27 17:17:52] Carl: man... was i lucky
[2007.03.27 17:18:24] Shopaholic Chick: how are you lucky?
[2007.03.27 17:18:39] Shopaholic Chick: im lost
[2007.03.27 17:18:45] Carl: because i didn't get screwed as badly as onsite affiliates
[2007.03.27 17:18:52] jlynn: carl do u have mostly your stuff, or do u affiliate for alot of others?
[2007.03.27 17:19:15] Carl: mostly my stuff now lynn... but i've been working on an affiliate mall for awhile
[2007.03.27 17:19:19] Shopaholic Chick: i think all affiliates are beign screwed
[2007.03.27 17:19:32] Shopaholic Chick: we cant link to our own shop with our affiliate\
[2007.03.27 17:19:33] jlynn: i agree shopaholic
[2007.03.27 17:19:37] i'm still sick: how do you figure you're any better off than the rest of us? if you've got any affiliate links up, you're just as screwed as anyone else.
[2007.03.27 17:19:43] Shopaholic Chick: so if they go to our shop and surf out they wont have the cookie
[2007.03.27 17:20:48] Carl: I can change my lmy link structure with a few lines of code, lynn. I'm not dealing with cafepress's shopkeeper interface
[2007.03.27 17:21:06] jlynn: i had been in the process of getting rid of all my affiliate items, but then started thinking i was shooting myself in the foot if i kept my own on there......i am sooo confused on what to do
[2007.03.27 17:21:26] jlynn: oh, so u do scripts carl
[2007.03.27 17:21:45] i'm still sick: not much you can do, really. they told us we can't do anything to get ahead of the game.
[2007.03.27 17:21:45] Carl: i'm running marty's cpshop, plus a few of my own
[2007.03.27 17:22:13] i'm still sick: we can't get the info for CJ until April 10
[2007.03.27 17:22:16] jlynn: very nice, i have been wanting to learn scripting, but it is a little over my head
[2007.03.27 17:22:32] mystic has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 17:22:47] mystic: hey
[2007.03.27 17:22:53] Carl: You can go ahead and join cj now. spend a bunch of time watching their publisher tutorials. read the newsletters on how best to convert, etc
[2007.03.27 17:22:56] jlynn: hi mystic
[2007.03.27 17:22:58] Carl: i'd use the time wisely
[2007.03.27 17:23:29] jlynn: i just hate giving every site my SS#, so i am working on getting an EIN#
[2007.03.27 17:23:55] kippy has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 17:24:06] kippy: Hi all
[2007.03.27 17:24:07] jlynn: then i have ran into a wall deciding if i get an EIN#, will i need a state tax number also
[2007.03.27 17:24:08] Carl: hiya carolyn
[2007.03.27 17:24:12] Carl: hi kip
[2007.03.27 17:24:55] mystic: Carl, are you already signed up with cj?
[2007.03.27 17:25:01] Carl: yeah, carolyn
[2007.03.27 17:25:16] Carl: and amazon, and adsense, and a bunch of others
[2007.03.27 17:25:21] mystic: off topic, your blog cracks me up.
[2007.03.27 17:25:27] Carl: lol
[2007.03.27 17:25:37] Carl: i haven't posted there in ages. darned cp.
[2007.03.27 17:25:46] mystic: So for you not a steep learning curve
[2007.03.27 17:25:55] mystic: I noticed
[2007.03.27 17:26:01] Romy: I've got Amazon, Adsense, Performics, and Shareasale.
[2007.03.27 17:26:14] Carl: they've got tutorials that start with the basics and progress. it's not as tough as you think
[2007.03.27 17:26:38] Romy: Oh, and Club Z! lol
[2007.03.27 17:26:57] mystic: Well I am still re-doing all my designs as they all had a halo.:(
[2007.03.27 17:27:04] Carl: the big questions are the terms and criteria that cp will set in place for the cookie. Nobody will say anything about it. I imagine that's because they haven't set it up yet.
[2007.03.27 17:27:05] mystic: Wow Romy
[2007.03.27 17:27:44] i'm still sick: I'm not saying switching to CJ is entirely a bad thing. I just don't see a real reason why they couldn't keep both options.
[2007.03.27 17:28:13] Carl: wow, romy... you must be having a "banner" year...
[2007.03.27 17:28:17] mystic: Or at least be able to set the cookie
[2007.03.27 17:28:30] Carl: because it isn't working now
[2007.03.27 17:28:54] kippy: They couldn't keep both options because they just flat out weren't thinking. They didn't even know until recently what they were doing.
[2007.03.27 17:29:09] kippy: They told people in January that they were moving to CJ, but would also be keeping the in-house program.
[2007.03.27 17:29:21] i'm still sick: for CP to CP traffic, it is working.
[2007.03.27 17:29:24] Carl: i get at least a hundred clicks per day on my portals. the conversion rate is almost zero... they only set a session cookie, and the tracking sucks big time
[2007.03.27 17:29:45] Romy: yeah, I haven't left the building yet ... lol
[2007.03.27 17:30:06] Carl: i agree that the current programs had other benefits
[2007.03.27 17:30:45] Carl: but honestly... if cp didn't get the vast majority of sales from the marketplace, they wouldn't be doing this
[2007.03.27 17:30:45] mystic: especially for new shopkeepers
[2007.03.27 17:31:13] Carl: the new program really only benefits the marketplace
[2007.03.27 17:31:59] Carl: shops CAN benefit, but they're going to have to go offsite and diversify. Offer your customers a t-shirt, stemware, a gift card, etc.
[2007.03.27 17:32:39] mystic: offsite is where I am heading
[2007.03.27 17:32:49] mystic: Marty will make a killing
[2007.03.27 17:32:55] Carl: if you're going to be an affiliate, it's your only choice
[2007.03.27 17:32:56] Romy: I'm not keen on signing up with CJ.
[2007.03.27 17:32:58] blonde_designs has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 17:33:03] SagArt has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 17:33:32] jlynn: carl, are u still going to promote your own items on your offline site?
[2007.03.27 17:33:35] i'm still sick: I've had an off-site location for a while, but I haven't done much with it. I just don't have the time to build TWO stores at once.
[2007.03.27 17:33:39] blonde_designs: well can't wait to find things out today
[2007.03.27 17:33:40] Carl: it's not that bad, romy. the unscrupulous publishers in the network suck, but there's unscrupulous people here
[2007.03.27 17:33:46] blonde_designs: should i get a beer now or later?
[2007.03.27 17:33:53] Carl: yes, lynn
[2007.03.27 17:34:02] Carl: i'll have to get creative to do it
[2007.03.27 17:34:08] Shopaholic Chick: rhonda get a few
[2007.03.27 17:34:09] Romy: that's true ...

[2007.03.27 17:34:18] Shopaholic Chick: they are just going to say the same thing as last night
[2007.03.27 17:34:23] Shopaholic Chick: bend over and smile while you do it
[2007.03.27 17:34:24] blonde_designs: like a 6er lol
[2007.03.27 17:34:27] kippy: yeah, just sit back and wait for the bullshit
[2007.03.27 17:34:30] i'm still sick: yeah, i figured that, too, Shop
[2007.03.27 17:34:40] jlynn: carl, how can u be creative?
[2007.03.27 17:34:46] Carl: either marty will figure out a way to set a cookie for your own products, or i'll opt out, or my wife will run the shop and i'll affiliate with my ssn
[2007.03.27 17:34:51] SagArt: What the heck are you rebels up too?
[2007.03.27 17:34:55] Shopaholic Chick: kippy i logged botht he official and the lobby last night and posted them on my blog
[2007.03.27 17:34:56] Carl: hiya sag

[2007.03.27 17:36:17] Romy: maybe I should whip out the tequila again

[2007.03.27 17:41:27] i'm still sick: yeah, i had a bunch of free shops beginning Feb of last year, but I was really just messin' around with stuff. trying it out. nothing too serious. i upgraded to premium probably around august or so of last year. it's still something i do on a seriously part-time basis, but it's nice for a little extra income
[2007.03.27 17:41:30] SagArt: Congrat Romy

[2007.03.27 18:24:08] Shopaholic Chick: theyw ill not answer me
[2007.03.27 18:24:10] Erinn: ;)
[2007.03.27 18:24:15] Shopaholic Chick: i hate being ignored
[2007.03.27 18:24:22] Shopaholic Chick: it is the same thing i asked 40 times last night
[2007.03.27 18:24:23] Erinn: im not even going to try and ask something over there
[2007.03.27 18:24:29] zoescloset: what was your question?
[2007.03.27 18:24:50] Shopaholic Chick: i want to know what they are going to do about the inter-CP shop to shop traffic they are throwing away
[2007.03.27 18:25:00] Gandalf_Parker: so far Im not thrilled with the answers :*-/
[2007.03.27 18:25:18] Shopaholic Chick: gand it is the same BS they spouted last night
[2007.03.27 18:25:32] Gandalf_Parker: I think that inter-CP traffic was a load on the system that didnt do them enough good
[2007.03.27 18:25:35] Shopaholic Chick: and they wont answer the real questions
[2007.03.27 18:25:43] Shopaholic Chick: gand 25% of my sales came from other shops
[2007.03.27 18:25:50] zoescloset: shop, that is my main question, too
[2007.03.27 18:25:59] Shopaholic Chick: now pwople will come to my shop - not see what they want and go to walmart - instead of surfing to another CP shop
[2007.03.27 18:26:05] Erinn: wow shop thats alot!
[2007.03.27 18:26:21] Shopaholic Chick: yeah this month over 80 sales came from other shops to my shop
[2007.03.27 18:26:23] Gandalf_Parker: you cant do the same thing with an external web site?
[2007.03.27 18:26:37] Shopaholic Chick: gand not all CP'ers have external web sites
[2007.03.27 18:26:47] Shopaholic Chick: i mean i can link out to my web site and back in to other shops
[2007.03.27 18:26:54] Gandalf_Parker: well the benefit to CP would be to change that :)
[2007.03.27 18:26:56] Erinn: i dont affiliate other stores, so im not sure if this whole thing is really going to affect me, its all so confusing though:-o
[2007.03.27 18:26:58] Shopaholic Chick: but a LOT of cp'ers do not have outside paid websites
[2007.03.27 18:27:19] Shopaholic Chick: yeah well the policy is you cannot link to CJ from CP
[2007.03.27 18:27:25] Gandalf_Parker: doesnt have to be paid. alot of free ones arent too bad
[2007.03.27 18:27:39] Shopaholic Chick: gand i know but a lot of CP'ers and internet inept
[2007.03.27 18:28:06] Shopaholic Chick: gand i have literally sent at least 50 people the template for my affiliate page for them to copy and paste with step by step directions onhow to make the page
[2007.03.27 18:28:09] FaeryMeg has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 18:28:27] Gandalf_Parker: I understand SC. But thats a "good for us shopkeepers" thing bouncing off of a "good for CP" thing
[2007.03.27 18:28:31] Shopaholic Chick: because they did not know how to write the html or put the html into the desction description
[2007.03.27 18:28:39] Shopaholic Chick: gand it is bad for me
[2007.03.27 18:28:56] Shopaholic Chick: it is those inept people i helped who are sending me traffic from thier "favorite friends" page!!!
[2007.03.27 18:29:08] Shopaholic Chick: no offense to inept people - i was one until last year
[2007.03.27 18:29:10] Shopaholic Chick: LOL
[2007.03.27 18:29:21] Shopaholic Chick: but still!! they are driving 25% of my traffic
[2007.03.27 18:30:03] Gandalf_Parker: I understand. But I dont think that will shift CP.
[2007.03.27 18:30:17] Shopaholic Chick: i think it will because i am not the only one that is getting traffic from other shops
[2007.03.27 18:30:37] Shopaholic Chick: i know because i am sending out to other shops too
[2007.03.27 18:30:44] Erinn: this 600000 is scaring me
[2007.03.27 18:30:52] Erinn: the top sellers list
[2007.03.27 18:31:23] Shopaholic Chick: yeah we basically have to pray we make that cut
[2007.03.27 18:31:34] Gandalf_Parker: This is going to basically kill another half dozen of my sites. Thats with the couple dozen that died when they started CPs affiliate, and the dozens that died when they nerfed the referral program
[2007.03.27 18:31:37] Shopaholic Chick: or we are only getting affiliate thru marketplace links and thru the lins we put out anyweays
[2007.03.27 18:31:45] Erinn: or i dont think we ever will! the top selllers will just continue to sell
[2007.03.27 18:31:50] Shopaholic Chick: so us avg joe's are not getting any extra help from this supposed hge network
[2007.03.27 18:31:58] Shopaholic Chick: only the people already making money - will make more money from it
[2007.03.27 18:32:00] Gandalf_Parker: But I do understand why they did all of them
[2007.03.27 18:32:02] Erinn: exactly
[2007.03.27 18:32:31] Shopaholic Chick: gand they only did 600,000 because they have to pay for the datafeed for them
[2007.03.27 18:32:44] Shopaholic Chick: and they did not find out they had to pay for it until after they signed with CJ
[2007.03.27 18:32:54] Shopaholic Chick: they did not do thier research fully
[2007.03.27 18:33:11] Shopaholic Chick: marty admitted last night in afterchat that they did not know about the datafeed charge until after they chose Cj
[2007.03.27 18:33:18] Gandalf_Parker: heehee. they just said that promotion thru sources where it often violates the ToS is ok. But of course they will continue to enforce their own ToS and CJ's quite strongly
[2007.03.27 18:33:54] Shopaholic Chick: MartyCP: Right now, the CJ Affiliate Program is going to try to increase new visitors to the site. Once that program is up and running, we'll discuss the other problem -- how can shopkeepers improve conversion in their stores, and link with each other profitably. And I don't know what the best solution to that is yet, but I'm thinking about it.
[2007.03.27 18:34:08] Gandalf_Parker: 600,000 is actually alot of shops. Most shops have zero, or 1, or 5 items in it
[2007.03.27 18:34:11] Shopaholic Chick: does this mean once they have the traffic they might drop CJ and give us our program back???
[2007.03.27 18:34:20] Shopaholic Chick: yeah gand but there are over 25,000,000 shops
[2007.03.27 18:34:42] Shopaholic Chick: i think my shopaholicchick will be in that top 600,000 because it is on the top shpkeepers list
[2007.03.27 18:34:43] Erinn: 25 mil, really?!
[2007.03.27 18:34:51] Shopaholic Chick: bnut my electionplace prolly is not it only makes a few sales a month
[2007.03.27 18:34:57] Erinn: go shop thats awesome
[2007.03.27 18:34:58] Shopaholic Chick: erinn that was the number last night
[2007.03.27 18:35:02] Erinn: WOW
[2007.03.27 18:35:12] Shopaholic Chick: erinn you have to think there are a lot of people who have 100+ basic shops
[2007.03.27 18:35:22] Gandalf_Parker: heehee. basic translation. parasites are "them" and never "us"
[2007.03.27 18:35:24] Erinn: how do we find out if we're on the top SK list? although im know im not there
[2007.03.27 18:35:24] Shopaholic Chick: who lionk them together extrenally
[2007.03.27 18:35:34] Erinn: true true
[2007.03.27 18:35:36] Shopaholic Chick: you get an email saying you are LMAO
[2007.03.27 18:35:40] Erinn: oh poo
[2007.03.27 18:35:45] Shopaholic Chick: as long as you dont use aol email
[2007.03.27 18:35:55] Shopaholic Chick: if your on aol you are not special LOL aol wont deliver the emails
[2007.03.27 18:36:04] Erinn: nope - gmail
:) i'll just keep waiting
[2007.03.27 18:36:42] Shopaholic Chick: i think to get on the list you have to make 500+ in base or soemthing
[2007.03.27 18:37:02] Shopaholic Chick: i dunno how you get on the newswire though LOL
[2007.03.27 18:37:18] Shopaholic Chick: oir maybe it is 500+ in sales
[2007.03.27 18:37:21] Shopaholic Chick: i dunno
[2007.03.27 18:37:27] Shopaholic Chick: i just know i get the emails LMAO
[2007.03.27 18:37:35] Erinn: oh i did that :(
[2007.03.27 18:37:39] Erinn: 500+
[2007.03.27 18:37:48] Shopaholic Chick: well just hope your i the magic 600,000
[2007.03.27 18:37:48] Erinn: in base
[2007.03.27 18:37:59] Erinn: ::crosses fingers::
[2007.03.27 18:38:13] Erinn: i never get the newsletters either though....just the donots
[2007.03.27 18:38:25] Erinn: which is fine^.^
[2007.03.27 18:38:29] Shopaholic Chick: i asked if they are going to publish that list or if there is a way to look and see them
[2007.03.27 18:38:49] Shopaholic Chick: the newswire is not emails you have to go to cafepress.com anc click on it
[2007.03.27 18:38:53] Gandalf_Parker: well I wont be. I purposely tended to split my shops across the spectrum so none of them will be in that category. Oh well, everything has its pros and cons
[2007.03.27 18:40:00] Shopaholic Chick: i want to know how CJ people will know to affiliate us if they cant search CJ and find us ....
[2007.03.27 18:40:18] Gandalf_Parker: heehee. someone asked "why cant CP remove the banner if Im not in marketplace" sheesh, why would they want to
[2007.03.27 18:40:18] Erinn: oh that wire thingy! i wanna be featured on there !
[2007.03.27 18:40:21] Shopaholic Chick: since they just said there is not way to search Cj and find us
[2007.03.27 18:40:22] Erinn: i know, shop!
[2007.03.27 18:40:28] Erinn: whats up with that
[2007.03.27 18:40:49] Shopaholic Chick: so we are joining a network but no one on the network will know we are in the network?!?!?!?!!?!?!?
[2007.03.27 18:41:36] Shopaholic Chick: they wont post real questions only fluff
[2007.03.27 18:42:46] Erinn: this sucks
[2007.03.27 18:42:57] Gandalf_Parker: they will be able to find us eventually when we shift enough data over
[2007.03.27 18:43:09] Gandalf_Parker: but personally I dont find the CJ system to be all that friendly
[2007.03.27 18:44:17] Shopaholic Chick: i know i cant figure out how to sign up!!!
[2007.03.27 18:44:30] Erinn: its under ummm shoot i cant remember
[2007.03.27 18:44:32] Erinn: publishers?
[2007.03.27 18:44:50] Shopaholic Chick: i wanna know why we cannot put CJ links on our CP shops
[2007.03.27 18:45:08] Erinn: yeah thats makes no sense
[2007.03.27 18:45:21] Gandalf_Parker: no CJ links in the shop will damage some uses I had in mind. But I do understand why they dont want it
[2007.03.27 18:45:28] Erinn: am i the only one utterly confused
[2007.03.27 18:45:31] Shopaholic Chick: means i have to send people to shopaholic-chick.com and then back into cp to get from my shop to another shop
[2007.03.27 18:46:08] Gandalf_Parker: when they say "you can use MySpace to promote your shop" I wish they would add "within the ToS" since so many violate that
[2007.03.27 18:46:12] Shopaholic Chick: they keep answering the same 5 fluff questions and wont touch the real issues
[2007.03.27 18:46:23] Erinn: gandalf youre right!
[2007.03.27 18:46:24] Shopaholic Chick: well gand the problem is....
[2007.03.27 18:46:57] Shopaholic Chick: we cannot put our CJ pid to link to our store - so if they leave our store and go to another - we cannot put our pid on it - unless we take them out of CP
[2007.03.27 18:46:58] Erinn: so this loyalty program thing - companies are offering discounts on cafepress stuff?
[2007.03.27 18:47:06] Erinn: or will be offering
[2007.03.27 18:47:10] Shopaholic Chick: i have no clue
[2007.03.27 18:47:13] Erinn: lol
[2007.03.27 18:47:20] Shopaholic Chick: there are progrmas like mypoints theyw ere talking about last night
[2007.03.27 18:47:27] Shopaholic Chick: but i dunno hwo that effects us
[2007.03.27 18:47:28] Gandalf_Parker: I underand the problem to us. I also understand the problem to CP
[2007.03.27 18:47:43] Shopaholic Chick: if they pull more then 20% out of ANY of my sale i will immeditaly close all my stores
[2007.03.27 18:48:33] Shopaholic Chick: supposedly if you make more then 10,000 on CJ they give you 20% instead of 15% and they will not ansdwer if that means CJ will be taking more out of our sales
[2007.03.27 18:48:48] Erinn: ohh shoot
[2007.03.27 18:48:52] Erinn: that would SUCK
[2007.03.27 18:49:29] Shopaholic Chick: they just posted a question i asked 42 minutes ago
[2007.03.27 18:49:31] Gandalf_Parker: There is also that .75 cent charge for each CJ transaction tht I dont see covered too much. Kindof blows for some of the really cheap little items
[2007.03.27 18:49:45] Erinn: so we cant have ANY affiliating stuff in or connected to our stores?
[2007.03.27 18:49:53] Shopaholic Chick: they cannot take more then 20% out of any of my sles
[2007.03.27 18:50:00] Shopaholic Chick: CPO will have to eat that charge not me
[2007.03.27 18:50:18] kippy: they won't take more than that
[2007.03.27 18:50:20] Erinn: so either you affiliate 100% of the products or you sell 100% of you OWN products
[2007.03.27 18:50:20] Shopaholic Chick: my affiliate contract with CP allows them to take 20% out of my comminision to be in the marketplace
[2007.03.27 18:50:46] Gandalf_Parker: finally. They referred to the resources that the old system used. Should I jump on the forums and scream I TOLD YOU SO to the moderators who kept shutting me up :)
[2007.03.27 18:50:56] Erinn: perhaps
[2007.03.27 18:51:01] Erinn: :P
[2007.03.27 18:51:12] RandomWoman has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 18:51:14] Shopaholic Chick: kippy - but the problem is - CJ gives people 20% of they make more then 10,000....does that mean CJ will make NOTHING on all those transactions???
[2007.03.27 18:51:35] Shopaholic Chick: gand last night
[2007.03.27 18:51:44] kippy: that's why we only make 15%
[2007.03.27 18:51:46] Shopaholic Chick: they actually admitted that they dropped the ball when debbie left CP
[2007.03.27 18:51:48] kippy: the 5% is for cj
[2007.03.27 18:51:53] Shopaholic Chick: but kippy
[2007.03.27 18:51:58] kippy: so far as I understand it, anyway
[2007.03.27 18:52:06] Shopaholic Chick: CJ will give you 20% not 15% if you make more then 10k
[2007.03.27 18:52:29] Shopaholic Chick: so is CJ giving it away free - ot are they going to take more then 20% so they still get their slice
[2007.03.27 18:52:49] Gandalf_Parker: Id idnt know Debiie left. I was kindof blaming her for this. Buess I owe her an apology
[2007.03.27 18:53:00] Shopaholic Chick: she left like september
[2007.03.27 18:53:06] Shopaholic Chick: and apparently no one picked up her slack
[2007.03.27 18:53:16] Shopaholic Chick: and they never bothered to tell us they were havign issues so we could fix it
[2007.03.27 18:53:38] Gandalf_Parker: I love Jims questions. He posts such obvious things as if CP didnt consider it
[2007.03.27 18:53:43] Shopaholic Chick: they just let it run into the toilet and never told anyone - then they went and got a new vender instead of giving us the chance to fix it
[2007.03.27 18:53:54] kippy: I'm not sure about that as I've not heard that, but do you really think CP is going to break a financial contract? They know that would leave them open to a nice court case. They're not going to suddenly say "oh, I feel like taking 30% now"
[2007.03.27 18:54:19] Shopaholic Chick: i will immeditaly cancel all my chops if they try and they will have a lawsuit
[2007.03.27 18:54:42] Gandalf_Parker: CP is in court cases all the time. They have an open contract with some of the best internet lawyers
[2007.03.27 18:54:44] Shopaholic Chick: CP is telling us to bend over right now - so nothing they do shocks me
[2007.03.27 18:55:06] Shopaholic Chick: they screwed us over because they dropped the bacll when debbie left
[2007.03.27 18:55:07] zoescloset: this is driving me nuts
[2007.03.27 18:55:25] Shopaholic Chick: if they told us back in sept that affliate was in trouble that they needed mor4e extrenal affiates we would have gone out and got them
[2007.03.27 18:55:31] Shopaholic Chick: we did not know that so we did not do it
[2007.03.27 18:55:33] Gandalf_Parker: duh. What CP does is for CP. IF they can do nice things for us then they will do that also
[2007.03.27 18:56:00] Shopaholic Chick: gand they will learn - when everyone leaves CP and joins printfection or zazzle
[2007.03.27 18:56:05] kippy: There's a difference between what they are doing now, which pisses me off to high heaven, and illegally taking your money.
[2007.03.27 18:56:21] Shopaholic Chick: that was the biggest talk last night was how many other sites people have already joined because they are afraid of what CP is doing
[2007.03.27 18:56:30] Shopaholic Chick: and dont want to be left in the cold when CP crashes & burns
[2007.03.27 18:57:14] Shopaholic Chick: people do not want to deal with a company who treats their breadwinners like crap
[2007.03.27 18:57:18] Shopaholic Chick: and thats what they are doing
[2007.03.27 18:57:19] Erinn: i hope this all turns out ok, i love CP
[2007.03.27 18:57:27] Gandalf_Parker: I think warren just made a mistake. He is comparing the ?pid=xxxxx structure to the CJ one but CJs goes thru a seperate website and script. There will be some headaches there
[2007.03.27 18:57:30] Shopaholic Chick: CP is forget that WE make them thier money and WE need to be made happy
[2007.03.27 18:57:41] Erinn: agreed shop
[2007.03.27 18:58:36] Gandalf_Parker: CP is bulk. There are better PoD's for ding bits of what CP does. If you arent just starting out with PoD, CP isnt what I would recommend
[2007.03.27 18:58:57] Shopaholic Chick: is shelby stupid or what - she does not understand that inter CP linking is a HUGE part of sales that will be lost!!!!!
[2007.03.27 18:59:19] Erinn: gandalf- what sites would you recommend?
[2007.03.27 19:00:10] Gandalf_Parker: depends on what you are using CP for
[2007.03.27 19:00:17] Shopaholic Chick: i am using it to pay my tuition
[2007.03.27 19:00:25] Shopaholic Chick: and i feel like they are about to force me to drop out of school
[2007.03.27 19:00:59] Gandalf_Parker: no I mean tshirts, CDs, posters, books, for a club
[2007.03.27 19:01:21] Erinn: baby clothing primarily
[2007.03.27 19:01:22] Shopaholic Chick: shirts mostly
[2007.03.27 19:01:32] Shopaholic Chick: but i sell just about every product CP has
[2007.03.27 19:01:38] Erinn: and adult tee's also
[2007.03.27 19:01:57] zoescloset: i'm mostly doing shirts and kids/toddler are big too
[2007.03.27 19:02:09] Gandalf_Parker: shirts probably PrintFection. new starting site. better printing than CP.
[2007.03.27 19:02:12] Shopaholic Chick: i just have so much time invested in Cp i hate to move to zazzle and have to start over
[2007.03.27 19:02:23] Shopaholic Chick: i wont use them i had a HUGE issues with printefection
[2007.03.27 19:02:33] Erinn: oh really :(
[2007.03.27 19:02:34] Shopaholic Chick: i had to threaten to get a lawyer involved
[2007.03.27 19:02:34] zoescloset: what happened?
[2007.03.27 19:02:44] Gandalf_Parker: zazzle is better for selling designs than selling shirts IMHO
[2007.03.27 19:02:45] Shopaholic Chick: i had loaded an image that had a problem with it and i could not take it down
[2007.03.27 19:02:52] Shopaholic Chick: they would not let me remove my own image from thier server
[2007.03.27 19:03:24] Shopaholic Chick: i had to threaten to get a lawyer involved for them to let me remove myimage from thier server
[2007.03.27 19:03:29] Gandalf_Parker: I dont think any pod does. CP just doesnt tell you unless you ask about it point blank
[2007.03.27 19:03:45] Erinn: jeez
[2007.03.27 19:03:45] Shopaholic Chick: gand but like on Cp you can go to the image basket and delete an image
[2007.03.27 19:03:54] Shopaholic Chick: on printefection you cant
[2007.03.27 19:03:56] zoescloset: whoa
[2007.03.27 19:04:03] Shopaholic Chick: once it is on product it stays on product and you cant remove it
[2007.03.27 19:04:26] Erinn: thats dumb
[2007.03.27 19:04:27] Shopaholic Chick: this was as of like 6 months ago - i dont know if they fixxed it yet
[2007.03.27 19:04:51] Shopaholic Chick: they offered me a lifetime free membership for premium shop - so i thought i would check it out...
[2007.03.27 19:04:55] Gandalf_Parker: like I said, they are just starting. dont have alot of the features CP has
[2007.03.27 19:05:13] Gandalf_Parker: also dont have the traffic (yet) or the load problems that will go with it (yet)
[2007.03.27 19:05:14] Erinn: good deal!
[2007.03.27 19:05:21] Gandalf_Parker: but a much nicer forum :)
[2007.03.27 19:05:24] Erinn: haha
[2007.03.27 19:05:32] Erinn: im going to check it out
[2007.03.27 19:05:39] Shopaholic Chick: yeah it was a lot harder to work with printefection too
[2007.03.27 19:05:44] Erinn: maybe they will eat up CP someday :)
[2007.03.27 19:05:44] Shopaholic Chick: took a lot more to get 1 image up there
[2007.03.27 19:06:09] Shopaholic Chick: i think CO already ate itself - and it is shooting out the shyt now....
[2007.03.27 19:06:11] Shopaholic Chick: CP*
[2007.03.27 19:06:53] Gandalf_Parker: I dont think PF and CP will ever be quite the same thing
[2007.03.27 19:06:56] Erinn: i know i know
[2007.03.27 19:06:57] Gandalf_Parker: I hpe not
[2007.03.27 19:07:10] Erinn: is zazzle a no-go?
[2007.03.27 19:07:14] boldavenue has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 19:07:32] Shopaholic Chick: i havent tried zazzle but i hear they use Cj AND an internal affiliate program
[2007.03.27 19:07:37] Gandalf_Parker: PF is better for shirts, zazle better for designers, CP better for people who havent decided yet what a PoD is good for
[2007.03.27 19:07:37] kippy: PF is supposedly launching a new interface in a few weeks, yes?
[2007.03.27 19:07:44] Erinn: interesting
[2007.03.27 19:08:08] Gandalf_Parker: lulu for books, allposter for posters, babygig for CDs, etc etc
[2007.03.27 19:08:30] Erinn: damn you know 'em all
[2007.03.27 19:08:50] Gandalf_Parker: Ive always said that they all have pros and cons. Yes thats what I do. join sites and evaluate them
[2007.03.27 19:08:53] dooni designs: found a new one today
[2007.03.27 19:09:02] Shopaholic Chick: gand dont use lulu for ebooks though
[2007.03.27 19:09:02] dooni designs: shirt city
[2007.03.27 19:09:05] Adam: guys stop talking about competitors
[2007.03.27 19:09:11] ppix1 has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 19:09:23] Shopaholic Chick: my friend did - and i bought her ebook from there
[2007.03.27 19:09:29] Gandalf_Parker: no I have another site for ebooks (have to check my list if you want it)
[2007.03.27 19:09:39] Shopaholic Chick: and it let me not only print it multiple times - but upload it onto CP to sell it on CP
[2007.03.27 19:09:59] Shopaholic Chick: i have rights to sell the book....so i was not breaking the law uploading it into CP
[2007.03.27 19:10:27] Shopaholic Chick: gand please let me know on the forum send me a PM with it
[2007.03.27 19:10:35] Shopaholic Chick: my friend would love a sercure Ebook site
[2007.03.27 19:11:02] Gandalf_Parker: heehee I get flack for recommending CP on all those other sites also :)
[2007.03.27 19:11:04] Shopaholic Chick: it is a book i illustrated for her - so she asked me to check the ebook and i found out i could download it as an unlocked PDF -
[2007.03.27 19:11:21] Shopaholic Chick: i reset the page sizes and loaded it right into CP
[2007.03.27 19:12:53] Shopaholic Chick: ever feel like your talking to a brick wall in CP chat???
[2007.03.27 19:13:05] Gandalf_Parker: beurocracy
[2007.03.27 19:13:31] Erinn: a slow brick wall
[2007.03.27 19:13:34] Shopaholic Chick: is that the polite term for "go screw yourself"
[2007.03.27 19:14:06] Shopaholic Chick: i mean no offense to anyone- but it hink george bush;s speach writer wrote thier script tonight
[2007.03.27 19:14:14] Shopaholic Chick: because they havent said anything worth listening to
[2007.03.27 19:14:29] Erinn sent an audio message: Laugh
[2007.03.27 19:14:36] Erinn: hehe
[2007.03.27 19:15:09] dooni designs: shop they have been answering some of ur ?'s
[2007.03.27 19:15:19] Shopaholic Chick: yeah the first one 42 minutes after i posted it
[2007.03.27 19:15:32] Shopaholic Chick: and they are not answerig the REAL questions
[2007.03.27 19:15:35] Shopaholic Chick: just the fluff ones
[2007.03.27 19:15:36] Erinn: me too shop, i guess they are bogged
[2007.03.27 19:16:06] Shopaholic Chick: no erinn they are lookingfor fluff to answer
[2007.03.27 19:16:15] Erinn: lol
[2007.03.27 19:16:20] Erinn: i know
[2007.03.27 19:16:38] Erinn: im surprised they havnt ended the chat yet
[2007.03.27 19:16:41] Gandalf_Parker: By real questions Im guessing ones that would make CP look bad, or they dont know the answer, or the answer would be something like DUH why would we WANT to
[2007.03.27 19:17:48] blonde_designs has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 19:17:56] Gandalf_Parker: sheesh. another one about outside traffic coming in. I always said it was a mistake for CP to go into such fancy shop features. It ate up the servers and everyone complained
[2007.03.27 19:18:28] kippy: They have answered more tonight than last night though, that's for sure
[2007.03.27 19:18:39] Gandalf_Parker: about lags. Now they are taking steps to nudge people to make a site and link to your shop. not a shop as a site
[2007.03.27 19:19:20] Jolent has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 19:19:24] Erinn: uh oh theyre coming over here
[2007.03.27 19:19:49] Rico: I've found this chat to be much more informative than the one in the chat room next door.
[2007.03.27 19:19:55] Gandalf_Parker: heehee
[2007.03.27 19:19:59] zoescloset: yup
[2007.03.27 19:20:04] Erinn: lol rico
[2007.03.27 19:20:14] Gandalf_Parker: of course you know that officially Im still listed as a "wealth of misinformation"
[2007.03.27 19:20:22] zoescloset: :)
[2007.03.27 19:20:37] Gandalf_Parker: altho they did let me back on the forums
[2007.03.27 19:21:10] Erinn: welcome back then:)
[2007.03.27 19:21:25] zoescloset: they kicked you off the forums?
[2007.03.27 19:21:36] Gandalf_Parker: I havent actually gone back yet. Everytime I post I seem to get "reminded" again
[2007.03.27 19:21:38] Erinn: ok they are repeating Q's over there
[2007.03.27 19:21:49] zoescloset: i know, it keeps happening.
[2007.03.27 19:22:11] Gandalf_Parker: it just seems that Im never going to be compatable with this forums management style
[2007.03.27 19:22:33] Gandalf_Parker: strange thing is that I get along great with staff, just not moderators
[2007.03.27 19:22:45] zoescloset: that stinks
[2007.03.27 19:22:51] Erinn: you making trouble?;) jk
[2007.03.27 19:23:24] zoescloset: dfid you all read - they just posted over there that shopkeepers should think about whether they want to continue being affiliates at all or not
[2007.03.27 19:23:34] i'm still sick: yeah...
[2007.03.27 19:24:01] i'm still sick: and zoe, though i can't remember for the life of me now what it was, your last question that they refused to answer and suggested you "contact them later" was a question i'd asked twice myself
[2007.03.27 19:24:03] Gandalf_Parker: they have always preferred affilaite to be different than shopkeeper. I dont think the new system will achieve that any better
[2007.03.27 19:24:20] zoescloset: yeah. but now i have shelby's email address :)
[2007.03.27 19:24:23] Erinn: so we "shouldnt" be both
[2007.03.27 19:24:24] Erinn: ?
[2007.03.27 19:24:28] i'm still sick: so i said, "but i've asked that question myself...why can't you just answer it?"
[2007.03.27 19:24:41] Gandalf_Parker: being both is hard on their system
[2007.03.27 19:24:42] zoescloset: did you get any response?
[2007.03.27 19:24:43] i'm still sick: of course, that didn't get answered either. ;)
[2007.03.27 19:25:05] zoescloset: this was my question (to shelby): can you clarify this? so there will be no affiliate pgm at all for several months? Mystic - we are going to evaluate our Loyalty partners closely and if we find they only drive repeat customers, we may not affiliate with them long term. Or we may affiliate for one month to get a fresh pool of customers and close down the affiliate campaign and re-launch it in a
[2007.03.27 19:25:14] i'm still sick: OHHH yeah.
[2007.03.27 19:25:16] zoescloset: few months when there is another "
[2007.03.27 19:25:39] zoescloset: it got cut off again - but you get the idea
[2007.03.27 19:25:40] i'm still sick: i asked them why we'd want to put all kinds of work into this again if they admit now that it might end up to be a waste of time
[2007.03.27 19:25:47] i'm still sick: only worded better
[2007.03.27 19:25:47] Gandalf_Parker: I was actually glad to see that. means they are still looking at CJ (not my preferred choice)
[2007.03.27 19:26:16] zoescloset: yes, i was both happy and not to see it
[2007.03.27 19:26:38] i'm still sick: yeah, i wondered why, if they plan to still consider it...why not just KEEP it
[2007.03.27 19:26:45] Gandalf_Parker: I might go back to doing my own affilaite program manually like before CP ever started theirs. Its friendlier to your linkers, and gives you more control
[2007.03.27 19:26:50] i'm still sick: see how CJ works out for them along the way, too
[2007.03.27 19:27:06] i'm still sick: how'd you do it, gandalf?
[2007.03.27 19:27:20] zoescloset: yeah, i wish i knew how to do more of that sort of stuff!
[2007.03.27 19:27:31] Gandalf_Parker: its to their advantage to turn it on even if they switch later. They will get residual traffic for free for awhile afterward
[2007.03.27 19:27:57] zoescloset: yes, but not to our advantage - so ultimately is it really helping them?
[2007.03.27 19:28:30] i'm still sick: LOL! NOW she's "answered" my question...now that she doesn't know what the question was anymore
[2007.03.27 19:28:45] i'm still sick: i'm still sick: I asked Zoe's question, too. Why can't we just get an answer now?
ShelbyCP: which question?

[2007.03.27 19:34:52] Jolent: speaking of having a chat regarding TAG SPAM...after the chat, CP need to email every single SK with the info, since most people dont come to chats or read the forum. Without email, they will never learn what they are doing is bad.

[2007.03.27 19:35:43] blonde_designs: angela its just that im a stay at home mom, and i love working w/cp but i fear all my hard work and creative ideas will be lost......
[2007.03.27 19:35:48] Erinn: eutstars- using inappropriate tags for images
[2007.03.27 19:35:57] AngelaCP: Jim, where did we say that SKs are only content providers?
[2007.03.27 19:36:02] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: tag spam is labeling designs a popular term that have nothing to do with that term.
[2007.03.27 19:36:04] Agent 86: I want to ask this -- why would it be paying twice (to the affiliate and the SK) --whether that 15% goes here or there, its the same 15%
[2007.03.27 19:36:06] eutstars: Since we can talk. If you are getting an error message from http://www.cj.com you need to go to http://cj.com
[2007.03.27 19:36:21] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: so we've learned: we can be both shopkeepers AND affiliates, but it's to our best interest to not be both at the same time

[2007.03.27 19:36:57] SagArt: Do you think that many shopkeeper's realize that they will not be included in the 600,000 bestsellers designs that CJ is driving traffic too and that the bestsellers do not turn over that fast because of designs like snoopy, star trek etc?

[2007.03.27 19:37:22] Agent 86: what Sag said .. what about those who don;t often rank that high there?
[2007.03.27 19:37:23] blonde_designs: exactly sag...im a small newbie sk mines not gonna be shown there
[2007.03.27 19:37:24] Erinn: i agree with sagart
[2007.03.27 19:37:27] blonde_designs: so what do i do now?
[2007.03.27 19:37:30] maryo: I don't like CJ - I've made no secret of the fact. I do really well with the affiliate program. I don't like some of the confusion and condescension that I have felt at times from CP. But I'm willing to take a wait and see attitude.
[2007.03.27 19:37:32] vicki: OK - question - has anyone at CP ever heard of the organization - Affiliate Fair Play - and has anyone at CP actually looked at all the issues surrounding parasites? (and I am not talking about any spin that CJ or former employees of those programs might have told you)
[2007.03.27 19:37:34] AngelaCP: sorry everyhone, i can't keep up... marty is still logging in ;)

[2007.03.27 19:37:46] Shadow: Is there a way for us to see this list of 600,000 with paying CJ to see it?
[2007.03.27 19:37:47] AngelaCP: i'll do my best and address the person asking the question
[2007.03.27 19:37:47] ShelbyCP: SagArt - the CJ Product Catalog is just a tool to get people to CafePress. Many affiliates will use it to build keyword campaigns on Google Adwords that drive people to Search results on CP not just the stores
[2007.03.27 19:37:54] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: well, my hubby will be joining CJ... and I'll use his links to link to other shops,... we'll see what happens.
[2007.03.27 19:37:57] ameriyank: The solutiuon for shopkeepers (blonde_designs) and everyone is to use CPShop. Mary does it for $20 a pop. You will need web space that includes a CGI bin, though. Then you can create what you want and send people to you CPshop instead of your Cafepress shop
[2007.03.27 19:38:02] i'm still sick: Would it be unreasonable of me to ask why I would want to have someone else make money off my designs if I "should not" make money off theirs? (This as was apparently suggested in the chat...that we should not be SK's AND affiliates)
[2007.03.27 19:38:08] ameriyank: Marty not mary does CPshop
[2007.03.27 19:38:11] blonde_designs: angela i'd love to have a one on one w/you, not only am i a new sk but im blonde :x so most of this is GREEK to me
[2007.03.27 19:38:29] jlynn: angela, if i sign up with CJ, can I place links with PID's on more then one website? Example: Link and PID on external website along with Link and PID on blog?
[2007.03.27 19:38:32] Agent 86: What is the Product Catalog? The P? And when did this name come about?
[2007.03.27 19:38:37] Agent 86: i meant MP
[2007.03.27 19:38:39] cowpie has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 19:38:40] SagArt: Wrong! Shelby you are looking for the big boys to come and buy and it is the 600,000 that will be targeted and you know it.
[2007.03.27 19:38:40] blonde_designs: ameri u have to teach me huni
[2007.03.27 19:38:41] eutstars: They are separating the two. Affiliates vs. shopkeepers.
[2007.03.27 19:38:51] Jolent: blond....keep coming to chats, and read the forums....you will catch on really fast! Lots of great info on the forums
[2007.03.27 19:39:01] mystic: this is moving to fast for me I am getting dizzy
[2007.03.27 19:39:02] NinaPa: It's not when they say great for Christmas, birthday etc. that causes tag spamming, although that is not good either.
[2007.03.27 19:39:08] MartyCP: GYG -- that's correct. Right now, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to crosslink between stores. (We'll work on a solution for that problem later.)
[2007.03.27 19:39:09] Shopaholic Chick: lol jolent - she is blonde.....realllllyyy blonde......
[2007.03.27 19:39:12] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: When I send traffic to my own store, I do not want a commision. HOWEVER when I'm sending brand new customers to cafepress THROUGH my store, I STILL deserve to be able to get a commision. I understand there are difficulties in this. Is there any way a CJ link can be set up that say "Exclude Catscratches"(My store) but obviously in programming code.. to get me thesales from the newcustomersW/out DD?
[2007.03.27 19:39:17] i'm still sick: Jolent - who has time for that? I barely have time to work on my store as it is!
[2007.03.27 19:39:20] MartyCP: The Product Catalog is the same thing as the XML Feed.
[2007.03.27 19:39:22] ShelbyCP: The *big boys* you refer to sag art are interested in the 55 million products on CafePress - they make their money off the LONG tail!
[2007.03.27 19:39:23] ameriyank: blonde_designs-- learn a tiny bit of HTML go to http://www.htmltut.com
[2007.03.27 19:39:23] Erinn: ok we need a talking stick
[2007.03.27 19:39:28] Jolent: true NinaPa...its when they add those words as tags for the cp marketplace
[2007.03.27 19:39:32] maryo: SagArt - if they create niche market data feeds it might help with that problem
[2007.03.27 19:39:34] ameriyank: I can show you the rest once I figure it out
[2007.03.27 19:39:39] i'm still sick: LOL @ Erinn
[2007.03.27 19:39:41] NinaPa: Cont. It is actually tagging the images themselves for the marketplace with those kinds of tags every time a holiday comes, with unrelated designs
[2007.03.27 19:39:47] ShelbyCP: We will be doing niche market feeds in the CJ Product Catalog...
[2007.03.27 19:39:49] blonde_designs: i do jolent but i get so lost in the POLITICS of it all that i can't have fun DESIGNING anymore |-(
[2007.03.27 19:39:52] SagArt: not off the feed of exclusive 600,000? come on!
[2007.03.27 19:39:57] AngelaCP: jlynn - yes. in the example with the blog and external website, you can use your pid on both sites
[2007.03.27 19:39:59] MartyCP: We're probably going to follow Maryo's suggestion of doing multiple targeted feeds, to circumvent the 600K size limit.
[2007.03.27 19:40:00] eutstars: You can learn HTML from http://www.htmlgoodies.com they are really good.
[2007.03.27 19:40:00] Erinn: yay shelby
[2007.03.27 19:40:02] Adam: at cost?
[2007.03.27 19:40:07] Jolent: I understand....
[2007.03.27 19:40:18] ameriyank: Blonde--on Marty's site he tells you all about how to use the program.

[2007.03.27 19:40:52] blonde_designs: k and thanks
[2007.03.27 19:40:57] ameriyank: Yes, and the one at http://www.htmlgoodies.com is better than the tut I wrote 10 years ago for aolers!
[2007.03.27 19:40:58] Gandalf_Parker: what we want and what we deserve arent really arguable. but the old system ate the resources and caused lags everyone hated. a nudge back to "offsite web page and link to a shop" instead of "shop as a full blown web site" has been predicted (gee, who did that?)
[2007.03.27 19:41:01] jean/rotemgear has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 19:41:07] blonde_designs: yea me either lol i don't sell much :/
[2007.03.27 19:41:20] MartyCP: By the way, thanks to all the people who sent nice comments to me in the other chat. I would have posted it all, but I would have made the other people in the room jealous. :)
[2007.03.27 19:41:21] i'm still sick: What's Marty's program cost?
[2007.03.27 19:41:26] Towal: Marty has an EXCELLENT hand holding instruction page for setting up CPshop
[2007.03.27 19:41:30] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: I'd imagine that we as shopkeepers (since we have ZERO control of the marketplace or feed) are best served courting small-time niche affiliates. We as publishers are best served by not mixing our products among those we promote. We'll be better off keeping these activities separate. Is this correct?
[2007.03.27 19:41:35] kippy: you can't lose for the $20 he charges
[2007.03.27 19:41:36] MartyCP: cpshop has a one-time fee of $19.77.

[2007.03.27 19:41:46] Shopaholic Chick: lol marty after staying late last night you desevere the :bow:
[2007.03.27 19:41:47] SagArt: And will those niche feeds be available for CJ at the beginning or will the ones who do not place in the 600,000 starve on the vine?
[2007.03.27 19:41:52] maryo: cpShop is awesome and so is Marty's support of it.
[2007.03.27 19:41:53] ameriyank: ok $19.77 :)
[2007.03.27 19:41:56] Shadow: I know my host wishes there wasna PHP version of CPSHop ....lol
[2007.03.27 19:42:04] Shadow: was a
[2007.03.27 19:42:05] mystic: Marty will make a killing after the switch over:-o
[2007.03.27 19:42:06] i'm still sick: what exactly is CPshop?
[2007.03.27 19:42:12] MartyCP: There's a story about why it's $19.77 and not $19.99 or $20, but I'll save that for another day.
[2007.03.27 19:42:19] Romy: Looks like our volume bonuses will be next ... I wondered why we had shop vs. marketplace reporting that isn't accurate.
[2007.03.27 19:42:23] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: I want stock in marty.net
[2007.03.27 19:42:28] maryo: LOL lucky number 7
[2007.03.27 19:42:34] Adam: niche feeds wont just be available on CJ -- dont be dumb plllllease
[2007.03.27 19:42:38] Jolent: 19.77 must relate to a year then? 1977?
[2007.03.27 19:42:44] maryo: the XML is still available
[2007.03.27 19:42:45] blonde_designs: will jump on the marty bandwagon after last nite
[2007.03.27 19:42:47] Gandalf_Parker: CPshop makes it easy to pull your shop into a webpage off of CafePress
[2007.03.27 19:42:48] MartyCP: cpshop lets you stick your store (and other stores) on your own website.
[2007.03.27 19:42:56] MartyCP: Anyone have cpshop examples?
[2007.03.27 19:42:56] naughtee: i love cpshop
[2007.03.27 19:42:59] SagArt: I know and I am trying to get a straight answer about it
[2007.03.27 19:43:05] ameriyank: is jengoode in here?
[2007.03.27 19:43:09] Lekker Jen: lekkerbride.com
[2007.03.27 19:43:10] Rhea: Is cafepress going to be driven by decisions made by the marketing department from now on? Because that sure seems to be where the power lies these days.
[2007.03.27 19:43:10] kippy: shop.kippygo.com
[2007.03.27 19:43:14] MartyCP: I'll let you guys do the plugging for me. I've never been good at self-promotion. :)
[2007.03.27 19:43:15] foxvox: www.artofoxvox.com (cpshop example)
[2007.03.27 19:43:17] Gandalf_Parker: it gives you more control over it than trying to develop a web page inside of CP
[2007.03.27 19:43:17] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: adam, i'm not being dumb. a small time niche affiliate doesn't give a hoot about the feed
[2007.03.27 19:43:18] maryo: http://www.evisionarts.com
[2007.03.27 19:43:19] UncleFrog: With the traffic that an affiliate marketer drives to CP, they get a 30 day window to make money on a sale. We as SKers only get a single shot. When we drive traffic to our CP Store, if we don't close them there and they wander off, no reward if we don't close.
[2007.03.27 19:43:20] artpaw: cat-quotes.com is a cp shop
[2007.03.27 19:43:22] blonde_designs: i think i need to get the $$ for your info thing marty u take cp $?
[2007.03.27 19:43:23] ameriyank: She has a nice CPshop. I think it is http://www.jgoode.com but I am not sure
[2007.03.27 19:43:27] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: I'd have sworn CPshop was more... one I was looking at was 100$... I'll have to look again.
[2007.03.27 19:43:28] Jolent: I will get CPshop experience now with the affiliate changes :P
[2007.03.27 19:43:32] Lekker Jen: http://www.lekkerbride.com
[2007.03.27 19:43:33] i'm still sick: LOL! it's moving so fast, i can't click it! :)
[2007.03.27 19:44:01] slamdunk: how is CPshop different from 4th click? I'm not familiar with it
[2007.03.27 19:44:04] vicki: Is anyone from CP going to answer my parasite question ;)
[2007.03.27 19:44:11] AngelaCP: hey everyone... i didn't realize it's 4:45 ... I have carpool so I have to get going....

[2007.03.27 19:44:38] ameriyank: slamdunk--with CP shop YOU have total control
[2007.03.27 19:44:38] AngelaCP: :D
[2007.03.27 19:44:40] kippy: night, angela, thanks
[2007.03.27 19:44:43] maryo: and thanks Shelby and Marty for staying
[2007.03.27 19:44:45] artpaw: Cpshop is totally a great tool, but we all have to figure out if Cj is going to be worth the learning curve and effort for ourselves.
[2007.03.27 19:44:45] eutstars: I see. I was wondering what cpshop was.
[2007.03.27 19:44:46] Towal: night ang
[2007.03.27 19:44:47] Kim: here is a total affiliate site http://www.trendy-t-shirts.com/
[2007.03.27 19:44:47] ameriyank: You host CPshop on your own web site
[2007.03.27 19:44:50] jdp: Angela...Can we have a chat session for the East Coasters? Maybe a little earlier time?
[2007.03.27 19:44:54] ShelbyCP: Vicki - lots of questions going around about parasites. We will publish an FAQ in the coming week clarifing the issue
[2007.03.27 19:44:58] mystic: nite
[2007.03.27 19:44:59] ShelbyCP: its a broad topic
[2007.03.27 19:45:00] Gandalf_Parker: apologies to people who tried to personal chat me. this new chat doesnt seem to do that very well
[2007.03.27 19:45:01] Fricka: Ha ha Shadow my hosts also wish their werent' ;)
[2007.03.27 19:45:04] AngelaCP sent a drawing:

[2007.03.27 19:45:32] boldavenue: thank you!
[2007.03.27 19:45:34] MartyCP: Actually, that's nifty. Chat software's come a long way. (I still remember WBS.net)
[2007.03.27 19:45:48] MartyCP: I think that's what it was called...
[2007.03.27 19:45:59] jdp has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 19:45:59] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: java chat servers rock
[2007.03.27 19:46:20] vicki: so is the gist of it that we will still not be getting any affiliate comission if someone comes to our shop and then buys elsewhere?
[2007.03.27 19:46:26] i'm still sick: okay...soo...cpshop. is it basically like a template then? like a CP template only one you use on another site? i'm a little confused as to...how i know what i'm looking at is cpshop.
[2007.03.27 19:46:31] luvmytzus: Sounds like a CPshop for your own shop is truely the answer. We set up a CPshop and make all of our links go just to the CPshop not cafepress/{shop} then link however we need to to other cafepress shops with similar themes. That way, when you send people to your own CPshop there are no parasite leaks and you can set the appropriate CJPID going into other shops. DO I understand this?
[2007.03.27 19:46:39] Erinn: when someone buys their own dot com is there a lot of setup in order to get cpshop to work- setup with that actual website, not installing cpshop ---- im clueless to all this
[2007.03.27 19:46:41] AngelaCP has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 19:46:46] Gandalf_Parker: I think java IRC buildins are better
[2007.03.27 19:46:51] artpaw: thanks guys. I gotta go ... so confused as to what to do next.

[2007.03.27 19:47:17] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: there's an extensive how-to posted at marty.net, erinn
[2007.03.27 19:47:19] MartyCP: I feel like I'm doing a chat informercial. :)
[2007.03.27 19:47:20] Jolent: Soooo, is Marty going to tell another story tonight? prepares the popcorn
[2007.03.27 19:47:21] Erinn: inquireing minds wanna know
[2007.03.27 19:47:21] luvmytzus: YES
[2007.03.27 19:47:26] Gandalf_Parker: irc://efnet/cafepress
[2007.03.27 19:47:28] blonde_designs: marty...do u take cp cash?
[2007.03.27 19:47:29] foxvox: CPSHOP link: http://marty.net/go2/site/view/marty/101 (start reading up on it there) :-)
[2007.03.27 19:47:38] blonde_designs: broke new sk lol
[2007.03.27 19:47:39] Lekker Jen: go to marty.net - he explains it there

[2007.03.27 19:47:53] MartyCP: Hmm...I don't take CafeCash currently, but I have had a few people ask me to. I could probably setup something if necessary.

[2007.03.27 19:48:05] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: lol
[2007.03.27 19:48:06] eutstars: You should. I am broke too.
[2007.03.27 19:48:13] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: that's hilarious
[2007.03.27 19:48:13] blonde_designs: lol im broke but cute does that help?
[2007.03.27 19:48:14] ameriyank: Marty, if you (or had someone make) a shop template with instructions for newbies, so all they have to do is add their shop(s) and change colors, you could help a lot of these non-htmlers get started
[2007.03.27 19:48:17] blonde_designs: kidding of course
[2007.03.27 19:48:23] Barry's World has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 19:48:24] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: OK.. time to budget new expenses... $20 for CP shop.. THEN find a more dependable webhost... was trying to wait on that one until July... but if CPshop requires setup on the server, not just the site, maybe I have to do that now. :(
[2007.03.27 19:48:25] SagArt has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 19:48:25] luvmytzus: Marty, do you host, too?
[2007.03.27 19:48:31] eutstars: And I don't want to write my own script.
[2007.03.27 19:48:40] Adam: omg marty cha ching
[2007.03.27 19:48:51] MartyCP: I don't do hosting. I thought about it, but I just think there's a danger of getting stuck doing a lot of webhosting issues, you know?
[2007.03.27 19:48:54] i'm still sick: one more quick question...while i realize $20 isn't that expensive, how is this different from copying and pasting the html from my CP shop into a blank html page at my website?
[2007.03.27 19:48:55] Jolent: forums at marty.net list some hosts
[2007.03.27 19:48:56] eutstars: Netfirms is a good host.
[2007.03.27 19:49:02] ameriyank: if we use CP shop, we can link to each other, too and solve the problem
[2007.03.27 19:49:03] blonde_designs: oh and adam thanks for the ic I HEART YOU!
[2007.03.27 19:49:09] eutstars: I have a free account and still can use cgi scipts.
[2007.03.27 19:49:14] Kim: cha ching adam..... lol they are all broke!
[2007.03.27 19:49:20] Gandalf_Parker: you can do the same thing manually, and thru a free host. But its probably well worth the money to do it with CPshop if you have large shops
[2007.03.27 19:49:28] Lekker Jen: sick - it's sooo much better. just look at what you can do through examples on marty's site
[2007.03.27 19:49:32] zoescloset: good point ameriyank
[2007.03.27 19:49:32] kiwi: Shelby - do you understand our question about wanting to get only a cookie - not double dip affiliate commission when we link to our own shops/products? Many of us mix our own and other SK products currently in our off-site web pages. Please see: http://forums.cafepress.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/865103631/m/534101831?r=626101831#626101831
[2007.03.27 19:49:34] SagArt has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 19:49:35] ameriyank: sick--CP shop is just plain EASIER than copying and pasting all that into new pages
[2007.03.27 19:49:48] ShelbyCP: kiwi - will check it out.
[2007.03.27 19:49:48] Adam: awww maybe marty accepts other forms of payment
[2007.03.27 19:49:49] danesrus: still sick - cpshop is dynamic - updates automatically (mostly)
[2007.03.27 19:49:50] luvmytzus: ameriyank: if we use CP shop, we can link to each other, too and solve the problem - EXACTLY - then we basically have an off-capepress affiliate site.
[2007.03.27 19:49:51] ameriyank: COP shop takes seconds, pasting,,etc takes WEEKS (for my shop)
[2007.03.27 19:49:54] kiwi: thankx
[2007.03.27 19:50:00] blonde_designs: ameri your gonna assist me on aol right? (thats me asking)

[2007.03.27 19:50:03] Sherry: Hmmm. Template from Foxvox, CPshop from Marty, Webhosting from Lunarpages.......what a great package that would be!
[2007.03.27 19:50:15] foxvox: ;-)
[2007.03.27 19:50:17] blonde_designs has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 19:50:23] Gandalf_Parker: actually if you copy your CP pages and add one line (baseref) they work
[2007.03.27 19:50:25] Erinn: and some to install it all!
[2007.03.27 19:50:26] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: eutstars.. is that free account dependable?? I have a paid host and it ISN'T.
[2007.03.27 19:50:29] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: cp shop scrapes it on the fly from a list of shops you set in your control panel, imsick - you change a product price or design on cafepress and it shows up automatically on your offsite cpshop installation
[2007.03.27 19:50:29] Erinn: someone
[2007.03.27 19:50:30] i'm still sick: oh. alright. well, thanks
[2007.03.27 19:50:30] eutstars: Yeah, that is what I am doing now. wasn't planning on building an external site. But now I have to.
[2007.03.27 19:50:31] MartyCP: You just have to make sure your host supports "sockets," which is a fancy way of saying "one website talking to another website" (or your server talking to cafepress.com).
[2007.03.27 19:50:34] blonde_designs: dag nabbit!!
[2007.03.27 19:50:38] ameriyank: Yes Blonde, I will help you and SHop as soon as I figure it out
[2007.03.27 19:50:38] MartyCP: Though almost all hosts do.
[2007.03.27 19:50:47] blonde_designs: thanks babe
[2007.03.27 19:50:50] blonde_designs: :)
[2007.03.27 19:50:51] Fricka: Kiwi -- I think the answer for now is that with CJ we wont' be able to link to our own shops but that Marty is going to work on a seperate thing so we can get credit and do things the old way.
[2007.03.27 19:51:03] MartyCP: That's right, Fricka.
[2007.03.27 19:51:06] Sherry: Almost all PAID hosts support sockets
[2007.03.27 19:51:09] zoescloset: yay marty :)
[2007.03.27 19:51:11] MartyCP: Right, Sherry.
[2007.03.27 19:51:12] Fricka: or note exactly the old way I guess but some new way
[2007.03.27 19:51:13] eutstars: I haven't ever had problems with htem. I have gone through them for 7 years. http://eutstars.netfirms.com
[2007.03.27 19:51:18] dooni designs: anyone know if it works with yahoo webhosting?
[2007.03.27 19:51:22] ameriyank: You should get space at dreamhost.com because it will give you the most options for the future. You can have several cpShops because they give you several cgi bins
[2007.03.27 19:51:24] blonde_designs: im really not happy w/my server tonite w/the whole bootin me thing and stuff

[2007.03.27 19:51:26] Circusvalley: MartyCP: Please find out about how you can accept CafeCash :-)
[2007.03.27 19:51:30] MartyCP: I think it works with some Yahoo hosting options, but not all.
[2007.03.27 19:51:34] Cassiopeia: I bought CPshop & couldn't figure out how to use it. but I'm a natural blonde & a bottle blonde!
[2007.03.27 19:51:34] Towal: a seperate thing...like what we already have. yay waste or more time/money for all of us /boggle

[2007.03.27 19:51:40] zoescloset: i love dreamhost :)
[2007.03.27 19:51:43] MartyCP: cpshop only supports CafePress. I do work here, after all.
[2007.03.27 19:51:47] blonde_designs: RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
[2007.03.27 19:51:54] Jolent: So there we have it....Marty's CPshop solves our most basic need to promote our own shop and still make affiliate commission on other shops

[2007.03.27 19:52:13] MartyCP: Depends on the Yahoo hosting account.
[2007.03.27 19:52:17] ameriyank: Well, not with the basic paid package on Yahoo because they do not give you a CGI bin
[2007.03.27 19:52:19] MartyCP: I have installed cpshop on several Yahoo accounts.
[2007.03.27 19:52:24] MartyCP: Right, ameriyank.
[2007.03.27 19:52:27] luvmytzus: What type of yahoo account do you have to have?
[2007.03.27 19:52:28] Gandalf_Parker: altho with CJ, I have hopes that we might get around that
[2007.03.27 19:52:32] naughtee: I use dreamhost and they are pretty reliable
[2007.03.27 19:52:50] eutstars: I have another site trough them that has cgi scripts on it now. But it hasn't been updated in a long time. http://simsroofoutlet.netfirms.com

[2007.03.27 19:53:06] blonde_designs: who do u use marty?
[2007.03.27 19:53:09] UncleFrog: Marty could sell $25 mini-buttons ... that would be like accepting CafeCash and we'd get to keep a collectors item to boot!
[2007.03.27 19:53:15] ameriyank: I am going to get space on dreamhost.com
[2007.03.27 19:53:16] MartyCP: I actually have my own servers. So I use me. :)
[2007.03.27 19:53:22] kippy: I'm for Dreamhost all the way, but I have also heard awesome things about lunarpages
[2007.03.27 19:53:24] Circusvalley: Nice Uncle Frog
[2007.03.27 19:53:24] blonde_designs: lol u go boy!
[2007.03.27 19:53:27] foxvox: I really love dreamhost. Have 20+ sites there.
[2007.03.27 19:53:27] Sherry: LunarPages rocks.
[2007.03.27 19:53:27] maryo has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 19:53:35] springdale: yahoo does work, tho I had to do a hard coded index page then put a ENTER button. Marty installed it cuz I am an idiot!
[2007.03.27 19:53:50] luvmytzus: I don't like yahoo either, but I'm not a programmer so have to stick with wysiwyg
[2007.03.27 19:53:50] Fricka: dreamhost works with cpshop and so does digitalspace.net --- both really cheap too

[2007.03.27 19:54:03] Jolent: bluehost here, and so far love it
[2007.03.27 19:54:06] ameriyank: If you go there it is $120 a year and you can have more than one domain actually hosted from the same sapce. They give you 160 GIGs of spoace and a ton of bnadwidth, so you can do whatever you want
[2007.03.27 19:54:06] MartyCP: Actually, I think I've figured out the Yahoo index issue, springdale, if you want to use cpshop as the homepage for your site.

[2007.03.27 19:54:17] luvmytzus: Can someone start a topic on the forum listing all the places that successfully host CPShop
[2007.03.27 19:54:19] i'm still sick: what do these servers typically cost you guys?
[2007.03.27 19:54:21] MartyCP: Email me (or post on the message board) if you do.
[2007.03.27 19:54:22] Gandalf_Parker: the advantage of CJ SHOULD be that you can build a website from millions of products. Doggie-Ts from CP, petbowls from someplace else, pet beds, pet vitamins. all from different places but selling thru the same system for affil $$$$
[2007.03.27 19:54:26] Lekker Jen: bluehost rocks

[2007.03.27 19:54:43] Gandalf_Parker: havent seen if that will work yet
[2007.03.27 19:54:45] eutstars: I wouldn't switch. Netfirms works with everything that I have tried to use. I hardcode, but I guess they work with frontpage and all the others.
[2007.03.27 19:54:47] Adam: u wont sell thru the same system
[2007.03.27 19:54:53] NinaPa: maybe this has been answered... since those of that choose to affiliate will be doing it through CJ, is anyone planning to put together website software that makes it easy for us to have a site that sells CP products AND other CJ affiliate items on the same site? I mean one that is easy for non-computer types to plug stuff into... might as well sell lots more products or at least have banners
[2007.03.27 19:55:05] Adam: it all goes thru seperate merchants carts
[2007.03.27 19:55:08] Adam: cj dont have a chart
[2007.03.27 19:55:09] Adam: cart
[2007.03.27 19:55:10] ameriyank: sixck, you can get really goood web space for $10 a month
[2007.03.27 19:55:13] i'm still sick: i've got anzwers.org right now, which is free for small businesses, and that rocks. can't beat free. :)
[2007.03.27 19:55:14] Gandalf_Parker: rats
[2007.03.27 19:55:15] maryo: separate carts
[2007.03.27 19:55:19] maryo: oh what Adam said
[2007.03.27 19:55:20] foxvox: Check out popshops.com?
[2007.03.27 19:55:38] Adam: www.shopster.com is a good thing
[2007.03.27 19:55:44] UncleFrog: I pay about $10 per month for web hosting.
[2007.03.27 19:55:47] Adam: u might like that g
[2007.03.27 19:55:48] ameriyank: Sick--free wioll NOT usually support cpShop
[2007.03.27 19:55:48] eutstars: Netfirms starts at $4.99 a month. I believe. Never updated because I have enough features with the free hosting.
[2007.03.27 19:55:49] MartyCP: Someday I hope to crack the separate cart issue, but right now it's still uncrackable with the CP system.
[2007.03.27 19:55:49] NinaPa: is popshops.com working well now? last time I cnecked it, it was still in the developmental stage
[2007.03.27 19:55:50] Circusvalley: MartyCP can you do that? Sell mini buttons to collect payment for your CPshop like UncleFrog wrote?
[2007.03.27 19:55:59] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: lol
[2007.03.27 19:56:01] kippy: popshops is still in beta, but is working
[2007.03.27 19:56:02] blonde_designs: ameri but what about us (like me) who can't afford that? any idea's?
[2007.03.27 19:56:18] ameriyank: Yes, but I am not sure it will work right now
[2007.03.27 19:56:22] foxvox: Not sure about popshops.com - just knew it might be an option. I don't use it much yet.
[2007.03.27 19:56:22] springdale: cool marty! don't shoot me, but I haven't updated to new versions, cuz I messed the last one up and you had to save me and get the whole site back. You have had updates, I get them every day to remind me for months, and I have forgotten my passwords, how to get in and everything. If you will accept me, I want to pay you to update the whole thingy again!!!
[2007.03.27 19:56:26] MartyCP: I'll look at the mini-buttons. I don't see why I couldn't do it (except laziness or forgetfulness, that is).

[2007.03.27 19:56:42] Lekker Jen: blonde - wait untill you have $$ to invest I guess. It costs money to make money
[2007.03.27 19:56:48] Sherry: LunarPages is $6.95 a month
[2007.03.27 19:56:49] zoescloset: what is popshops.com?
[2007.03.27 19:56:50] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: the minibutton problem is we'd be paying for the button and shipping too.. but it'd still be easier for me than cash.. maybe a sticker though?
[2007.03.27 19:56:50] ameriyank: Dreamhost lets you have more than one domain from the same space. I dont know if they will allow more than one passowrd account. So I am nto sure if people can share an account
[2007.03.27 19:57:04] zoescloset: also dreamhost is employee owned. i like that
[2007.03.27 19:57:08] eutstars: The only thing I can't do on my free host is PHP. I don't need to do PHP right now, so don't need to upgrade.

[2007.03.27 19:57:13] MartyCP: Springdale, just email me personally with the login info, and I'll update it. If it's just a simple update, I don't see why you'd need to pay.
[2007.03.27 19:57:13] blonde_designs: i mean i make over 150 each mo but i need to know my hard work will pay off
[2007.03.27 19:57:24] UncleFrog: use a coupon on the minibutton purchase .. it's like free shipping
[2007.03.27 19:57:27] MartyCP: Though you really should get in the habit of updating. ;)
[2007.03.27 19:57:44] foxvox: popshops.com helpos you create a site from many different affiliates. http://www.popshops.com
[2007.03.27 19:57:49] springdale: Love ya Marty your the best! I'll email you tomorrow!
[2007.03.27 19:58:17] springdale: yeah yeah I know. blushing!
[2007.03.27 19:58:19] i'm still sick: I heart coupons
[2007.03.27 19:58:24] Gandalf_Parker: sounds like other ideas. I posted once that I might sell my designs by putting them on CafePress as a sticker priced at $20
[2007.03.27 19:58:27] blonde_designs: god i feel like a guppy in a koi tank
[2007.03.27 19:58:30] ameriyank: Let me write to dreamhost on Thursday (I will be gone tomrrow) and see if they can work something out for groups of shopkeepers.
[2007.03.27 19:58:59] blonde_designs: and...i can't spell today lol

[2007.03.27 19:59:20] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: marty lives on the internet. I bought cp shops one evening, and he emailed the download password in the wee hours of the night... unless he's tele-working from thailand or something
[2007.03.27 19:59:24] Fricka: so from teh folks in teh room.. are you going to sign up as a CJ affiliate? I''m going to test it out I think.
[2007.03.27 19:59:32] Fricka: sorry for the typos :P
[2007.03.27 19:59:43] slamdunk: i already signed up
[2007.03.27 19:59:45] Jim: Fricka - I am not
[2007.03.27 19:59:50] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: i'm already signed up, fricka - it's not that diff
[2007.03.27 19:59:53] SagArt: NO.
[2007.03.27 19:59:53] Adam: yup have no choice
[2007.03.27 19:59:54] maryo: I've signed up - I'll see how it goes
[2007.03.27 19:59:56] givitup: I don't thin I'll sign up if we can't link to our shop
[2007.03.27 19:59:57] UncleFrog: I'm not doing CJ ... I did that once already. I'm going to focus on my shopkeeper duties.
[2007.03.27 19:59:57] eutstars: You can link to your shop. You can not affilliate to your shop.
[2007.03.27 20:00:00] Towal: nope
[2007.03.27 20:00:02] Jim: I;m done, not enough in it for me especially with the 5% reduction
[2007.03.27 20:00:03] kippy: i am undecided
[2007.03.27 20:00:10] luvmytzus: I am signed up and see a lot of potential in the other advertisers on cj.
[2007.03.27 20:00:11] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: plus there are tons of great tutes on converting and promotion
[2007.03.27 20:00:24] givitup: I know we can link - I meant send a pid
[2007.03.27 20:00:27] i'm still sick: Fricka - i likely will when the time comes...but i get the feeling it's not going to be worth it. it'll mean a lot of off-CP work that i don't really have time for
[2007.03.27 20:00:28] Lekker Jen: I was asked to beta test, so I guess I have too
[2007.03.27 20:00:40] Gandalf_Parker: actually you can always send someone to your shop with a pid, it just doesnt get you anything in CP anymore (but you can use it for manually tracking your own affil program)
[2007.03.27 20:00:46] Jim: the Sk is simply a content provider as CP does not want to push our stores at all for any reason, so i am done pushnig CP
[2007.03.27 20:00:49] foxvox: I'm signed up. Will see how it goes. :-)
[2007.03.27 20:00:49] MartyCP: Woah...my tummy is rumbling. I missed lunch. :(
[2007.03.27 20:00:57] Lekker Jen: tracking won't work after 5/31 though
[2007.03.27 20:00:58] eutstars: Not to your own shop, that is affilliating.
[2007.03.27 20:01:04] MartyCP: I think the people in the hall heard it. :)
[2007.03.27 20:01:04] SagArt: Me too, Jim.
[2007.03.27 20:01:08] Shopaholic Chick: hands marty a bag of chips
[2007.03.27 20:01:09] springdale: i will, as I hard codes several affiliate shops in some niches I don't have that I don't want to just delete months of work on. So I'll sign up and see how goes.
[2007.03.27 20:01:10] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: we'd give you a cookie, but shopkeepers can't have those ;)

[2007.03.27 20:01:22] slamdunk: LOL carl

[2007.03.27 20:01:36] Gandalf_Parker: wont matter for manual program
[2007.03.27 20:01:39] MartyCP: I'm going to run to the vending machine...
[2007.03.27 20:01:40] blonde_designs: i made steak burgers very tasty
[2007.03.27 20:01:46] i'm still sick: Have to say, I'm seriously considering pulling my shops from the marketplace completely, though
[2007.03.27 20:01:52] kippy: yes, we want to hear about this manual affiliate program
[2007.03.27 20:01:53] blonde_designs: on the forman grill
[2007.03.27 20:01:54] ace: so I just got home, any new info from the chat?
[2007.03.27 20:01:54] blonde_designs: ;)
[2007.03.27 20:01:58] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: why pull them?
[2007.03.27 20:02:02] blonde_designs: wow ace...yea
[2007.03.27 20:02:05] Fricka: And then are you going to opt OUT of the Marketplace? Even before this CJ think most of my stores were opted out but I may stay in and see anyway.
[2007.03.27 20:02:05] cowpie: We aren't nice. We should let Marty go so he can eat something.
[2007.03.27 20:02:06] refinish69: I ka etoo many sales from the markey place to pull mine LOL
[2007.03.27 20:02:12] Gandalf_Parker: your statcounter drops it? that sucks
[2007.03.27 20:02:13] Jim: Arl, because there is no reason to be in the marketplace
[2007.03.27 20:02:13] Shopaholic Chick: i am eatig low fat tortillas dipped in low fat sour cream mixxed with fat free salsa....
[2007.03.27 20:02:29] ameriyank: SICK-- DO NOT DO THAt. If you do you will be all on yourn own in the Great Big Internet. And that won't pay off because of changes Google has made to its algortithms
[2007.03.27 20:02:31] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: jim, what percentage of your sales come from the marketplace now?
[2007.03.27 20:02:33] UncleFrog: I'm staying in the Marketplace ... but I'm NOT doing the CJ
[2007.03.27 20:02:35] Shadow has entered the room "The Lobby"

[2007.03.27 20:02:37] Shopaholic Chick: and it sucks cuzi ran out of hot salsa....
[2007.03.27 20:02:43] Sherry: I'm already signed up with CJ - A company I wanted to affiliate only offered that option so I signed up - Definately prefer to affiliate businaesses that use Linkshare or Share-a Sale instead though.
[2007.03.27 20:02:43] ace: I was at the chat yesterday, I know that they will not let us link from One shop to another and get sales, anything else new and exciting?
[2007.03.27 20:02:55] Jim: Carl a decent amount
[2007.03.27 20:03:00] i'm still sick: exactly. at this point, most of my sales are coming from outside sources.
[2007.03.27 20:03:01] ace: Linkshare and Shareasale BLOW
[2007.03.27 20:03:08] Fricka: ace.. the official chat was much better than yesterday
[2007.03.27 20:03:10] ace: CJ is by far the best
[2007.03.27 20:03:11] Adam: blow what?
[2007.03.27 20:03:16] ameriyank: Most of my sales are coming from the marketplace
[2007.03.27 20:03:17] ace: crap, todays was better
[2007.03.27 20:03:17] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: i know the tracking is screwed, but it's 40 to 80 % of business for most of us
[2007.03.27 20:03:26] Shadow: What is considered "a lot" of affiliate sales?
[2007.03.27 20:03:29] Jim: Carl, i agree I am somewhere in there
[2007.03.27 20:03:33] ace: what new stuff did they bring up today?
[2007.03.27 20:03:34] umlando: I don't sell much, about half from Marketplace
[2007.03.27 20:03:39] blonde_designs: can i make a statement w/out everyone biting my head off here?.
[2007.03.27 20:03:40] Gandalf_Parker: I meant to ask. Did they say you cant link one shop to another, or just that it wouldnt record a sale?
[2007.03.27 20:03:42] ameriyank: After Christmas most of my Shop sales disappaered. I lost about 2/3 of my business.
[2007.03.27 20:03:44] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: with the new program, the marketplace is very important - because they're ONLY promoting the marketplace
[2007.03.27 20:03:46] ace: make your statement
[2007.03.27 20:03:47] blonde_designs:waits for answer
[2007.03.27 20:03:52] bysandra has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 20:03:52] i'm still sick: sure, this could potentially bring new sales..but if it's going to mean losing commission to an affiliate i wouldn't otherwise have, espeically if i'm not affiliating stores myself, then it's not worth it
[2007.03.27 20:03:53] refinish69: I get some affiliate sales and make a few for others but not enough to pull out
[2007.03.27 20:03:59] Adam: ace is a plant
[2007.03.27 20:04:02] Gandalf_Parker: if I can then you can Blondie
[2007.03.27 20:04:02] blonde_designs: how do we know we won't make more $$ if we don't try?
[2007.03.27 20:04:03] ameriyank: yes blonde
[2007.03.27 20:04:07] blonde_designs: sorry im new to this
[2007.03.27 20:04:09] Lekker Jen: night all - hubby made pork chops
[2007.03.27 20:04:11] ace: oh I plan on trying
[2007.03.27 20:04:18] ace: I will own this new affiliate thing
[2007.03.27 20:04:19] blonde_designs: but im tryin to be opitmistic and yes i can't spell today
[2007.03.27 20:04:19] foxvox: Bye Jen! Hi to Jason!
[2007.03.27 20:04:23] eutstars: mmmmm.....pork chops
[2007.03.27 20:04:26] ace: but it is a total pain in the butt
[2007.03.27 20:04:30] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: go to cj and look around. Most merchants offer banner links, text links, and all sorts of stuff - in addition to the datafeed
[2007.03.27 20:04:30] Jim: Carl and if I receove a large percentage of my sales from the marketplace now, when CJ kicks in I will still recieve that MAYBE and willhave to cough up 20% for much of it as well
[2007.03.27 20:04:33] cowpie: Bye Jen!

[2007.03.27 20:04:39] Gandalf_Parker: CJ has its pros and cons
[2007.03.27 20:04:41] ameriyank: GOOD question Blonde. Its just not being abel to use your shop and having to do a LOT of extra work to make it come together
[2007.03.27 20:04:44] refinish69: if I het the sale from someone else affiliate=ing a design or my shop I still get more than I would without the sale LOL
[2007.03.27 20:04:45] ace: whatever
[2007.03.27 20:04:53] ace: I want to know what new stuff they talked about today
[2007.03.27 20:04:55] zoescloset: good night, folks. thanks
[2007.03.27 20:04:59] springdale: Question:

[2007.03.27 20:05:32] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: Hmm.. My hubby is making cube steaks and mashed potatoes.. I guess I can do without pork chops. :)
[2007.03.27 20:05:41] Gandalf_Parker: I dont think CJ will be as easy as CPs program, but eventually I think we will see CP run better
[2007.03.27 20:05:41] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: I think a large number of small time affiliates (like myself) will use high converting portal links - at least at first. marketplace traffic should rise (slowly) and it'll pay to stay in the marketplace
[2007.03.27 20:05:44] Shadow: I got a much larger percentage of Market place sales this month, which isn't normal for me. But this month wasn't normal overall.
[2007.03.27 20:05:46] blonde_designs: ameri i understand that i am an affliliate but im willing to try...hell my sales suck cuz im new
[2007.03.27 20:05:47] UncleFrog: the professionals we'll probably like ... it's those pesky conartists
[2007.03.27 20:05:49] ShelfLife: ace: you've been plonked
[2007.03.27 20:05:51] i'm still sick: ACE - they literally told us it's to our advantage to not be a shopkeeeper AND an affiliate. that's about all you missed. ;)

[2007.03.27 20:06:27] Jim: m goal it to get people to my shop, not the marketplace when I am one of millions of images
[2007.03.27 20:06:30] UncleFrog: Other than affiliate generated sales, we are 100% marketplace this month ... those numbers are suspect at best
[2007.03.27 20:06:31] ace: They obviously just want big time affiliates and now shopkeepers I guess
[2007.03.27 20:06:34] Shadow: CJ is ran by school kids?
[2007.03.27 20:06:39] Adam: lol
[2007.03.27 20:06:44] springdale: oops, Right now the opt in to marketplace and others selling our stuff is on a shop by shop basis. Will that definetly continue and not be on an total account basis. I have a plan now to opt out of two premmies that have all their products already in other shops. and then opt in with those.
[2007.03.27 20:06:44] Sherry: LOL!

[2007.03.27 20:08:08] ameriyank: Blonde, you, me, Shop and Dooni will work on something using cpShop to make it work for us
[2007.03.27 20:08:18] Jim: good quetsion frog I was thinking the same, CP dies now when there is a load, how can they possible keep it running with more
[2007.03.27 20:08:24] slamdunk: we can support each other in our blogs, squidoo and myspace
[2007.03.27 20:08:25] refinish69: I'll still promote other shopsa nd designs

[2007.03.27 20:08:46] slamdunk: why can't we just trade links in those places and get our commissions from each other?
[2007.03.27 20:08:47] Gandalf_Parker: we did all this with links before
[2007.03.27 20:08:48] blonde_designs: where is my babes amy?
[2007.03.27 20:08:49] refinish69: I just hate the fact that topic ads are going away
[2007.03.27 20:08:52] ace: I was really enjoying selling other people stuff from my shop
[2007.03.27 20:09:01] MartyCP: Frog, we're in *much* better shape now with traffic support. And we're in the process of adding a second data center, and moving more load over to Akamai (a traffic load caching service). I think we're much, much better off than last year.
[2007.03.27 20:09:02] ace: guess I will just have to stop promoting the other shops
[2007.03.27 20:09:10] Shopaholic Chick: slam we can - but we cant put the CJ links on our CP shops - so you have to put your links to other people shops off CP
[2007.03.27 20:09:14] Sherry: UncleFrog- wasn't the "s" in S.M.A.R.T. supposed to be for SCALEABLE?
[2007.03.27 20:09:17] i'm still sick: Like I said yesterday, I think this might be asking for more design copying than we used to get. I know people have asked me to make a particular design, but if it's somethign I know already exists, I point them in that direction. If they still don't like that option, then I'll make a new one for them.
[2007.03.27 20:09:17] blonde_designs: ace...promote us other ways
[2007.03.27 20:09:23] ameriyank: If I can get dreamhost to give CP shopkeepers a deal on shared space, maybe we can help the rest of CP too

[2007.03.27 20:09:37] blonde_designs: oo that sounded bad lol

With some comments that were made in tonights chat, I'm concerned about the accuracy of that column and how it migh affect SKs in "bonus program evaluations"
[2007.03.27 20:10:04] ace: I would rather make money than promote you

[2007.03.27 20:10:59] slamdunk: can't we still put a link like "visit us at squidoo" or myspace... and then people will see our links there?
[2007.03.27 20:10:59] i'm still sick: and yeah, if we ccan't direct people to other ideas anymore, there WILL be a lot more copying
[2007.03.27 20:11:00] refinish69: but I am not opting out LOL
[2007.03.27 20:11:02] Shopaholic Chick: people cant join our blog

[2007.03.27 20:11:15] Towal: and here CP told us no one would be copycatting. Now we just have someone ADMITTING they will be doing it. I feel all confident in CP now
[2007.03.27 20:11:22] Sherry: Yeah, I'm wondering about the Source reporting, too. Sales I know came in through my CPshop are being credited to Marketplace.
[2007.03.27 20:11:22] ace: it makes me feel like Im stupid and I should copy more

[2007.03.27 20:15:26] Adam: and many of us can affor to print our own
[2007.03.27 20:15:30] eutstars: I want to see two designs that are copies. Because technically, it is not copied if it is slightly different fromt eh first.
[2007.03.27 20:15:31] Adam: maybe we do already aas well
[2007.03.27 20:15:31] UncleFrog: mmmm, McDonalds
[2007.03.27 20:15:32] Shopaholic Chick: adam i add 300 designs a month...i dont make $9,000 a month
[2007.03.27 20:15:34] Fricka: I'm not and I have lawyers who agree with me
[2007.03.27 20:15:42] Adam: ignorance
[2007.03.27 20:15:43] MartyCP: Close to San Jose, but I'm in Foster City right now.
[2007.03.27 20:15:49] ace: well, then why are the Napoleon Dynamite shops still open?
[2007.03.27 20:15:52] ameriyank: eustars, that's what I mean, people "get inspired" from my designs LOLOLOL
[2007.03.27 20:15:56] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: Marty, figure out who ACE is, and if he does what he says he does, get his shop pulled!
[2007.03.27 20:15:57] Jim: eustars it can be diferent and stil be considered a copy
[2007.03.27 20:16:06] i'm still sick: CARL: "Why not affiliate whoever you like offsite?" Because that's off-site. If they're getting to my shop through the marketplace, they wont' find my affilate links
[2007.03.27 20:16:07] refinish69: then report them to cup
[2007.03.27 20:16:10] ace has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 20:16:27] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: think I scared him off? :)
[2007.03.27 20:16:30] ameriyank: Too bad, I dont have a phoine book for Foster City so I can't figure out how to send you a Pizza...can't call the delivery people :)
[2007.03.27 20:16:31] mystic: ok my daughter pushed buttons while I was typing
[2007.03.27 20:16:35] eutstars: Well, that isn't copying. They could have teh idea before, as well. People come up with the same ideas all the time.
[2007.03.27 20:16:36] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: they won't pull his account. they'll pull the design, he'll do it again, they'll pull it.... i bet it's largely automated
[2007.03.27 20:16:41] refinish69: I love when they whine but don't want to do anything
[2007.03.27 20:16:48] MartyCP: Actually, it's not automated.
[2007.03.27 20:16:49] Shadow: I said this last night... if you all I can opt out of the marketplace, I would really appreciate it
[2007.03.27 20:17:00] ameriyank: SICK, you CAN link to your offsite space from your shop
[2007.03.27 20:17:05] Fricka: shadow ?
[2007.03.27 20:17:06] Jim: shadow, I am on my way - glad I could help!
[2007.03.27 20:17:07] eutstars: I make designs and then post them and search for them and end up finding several with similar sayings are something that is the same.
[2007.03.27 20:17:08] danesrus has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 20:17:11] Shadow: yes Frika?
[2007.03.27 20:17:28] maryo: funny we were thinking the same thing about you Shadow
[2007.03.27 20:17:29] Fricka: I dind't understand your sentence :)
[2007.03.27 20:17:29] slamdunk: i wish we had an easier "reporting" method... at zazzle there is a button right above the design that says "report violation"... if you provide a link to what they copied, they get deleted... this includes microsoft clipart (which i can't stand seeing people put on t-shirts!)
[2007.03.27 20:17:31] refinish69: simillar is not the same as copying a design
[2007.03.27 20:17:31] eutstars: It isn't copywrite infringement if it is different.
[2007.03.27 20:17:46] refinish69: I do politoical stuff and it is hard not to have simillar phrases
[2007.03.27 20:17:52] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: marty, how can designs be redflagged within a minute of upload... unless there are methods to automatically redflag a design with certain tags?
[2007.03.27 20:17:57] Shadow: lol...if everyone opts out of the marketplace, I will be the only one there...lol
[2007.03.27 20:18:00] dooni designs: no idea is a new idea lol
[2007.03.27 20:18:01] eutstars: Exactly, copying is having the same exact design.
[2007.03.27 20:18:04] Fricka: oh LOL
[2007.03.27 20:18:16] Adam has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 20:18:18] Shadow: was being a smart ass
[2007.03.27 20:18:20] ameriyank: Refinish--you can have the EXACT same phrase as long as it's a different font. Seriously.

[2007.03.27 20:18:26] mystic has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 20:18:28] UncleFrog: you had me going, shadow
[2007.03.27 20:18:28] i'm still sick: Yeah, but Zazzle doesnt' seem to care either. I'm not even a member, and I've reported things there.. 9 months later, they still exist.
[2007.03.27 20:18:33] Jim: a phrase is diferent than a design
[2007.03.27 20:18:39] refinish69: but that to me is stealing ameri
[2007.03.27 20:18:41] Jim: a phrase would be trademarked not copyrighted
[2007.03.27 20:18:52] refinish69: so I don't do it
[2007.03.27 20:18:53] eutstars: Yes, but it has to be different and the phrase can not be trademarked.
[2007.03.27 20:18:54] ameriyank: Refinish, to me, too, but the law is the law
[2007.03.27 20:18:54] Shadow: my goal is to be #600,000 and make it to #599,999 by the end of the year
[2007.03.27 20:19:06] blonde_designs: sorry guys im back i have a sister on chemo right now
[2007.03.27 20:19:09] blonde_designs: :/
[2007.03.27 20:19:10] refinish69: my morals are always higher than the law
[2007.03.27 20:19:14] refinish69: lol
[2007.03.27 20:19:14] MartyCP: We have people that sit in a room all day, and look at screens and screens of images, often as they're being uploaded (if they're not behind). (It's tedious, terrible work, but they do it. I'm constantly amazed by them, and think they deserve a raise.)
[2007.03.27 20:19:15] ameriyank: I dont do it either, but it is legal is my point
[2007.03.27 20:19:20] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: I'd help you, Shadow - but i lack the storage space.

[2007.03.27 20:19:35] refinish69: especially under b
[2007.03.27 20:19:37] Shadow: somehow I knew that Carl
[2007.03.27 20:19:38] refinish69: lol
[2007.03.27 20:19:41] MartyCP: Dunk, I actually just started talking to some people about a concept like that today. Tag spam, inappropriate content, copyright infringement -- I think there's a community-supported solution to be developed there, if we start the conversation.
[2007.03.27 20:19:42] eutstars: Yes, the law is the law. Anything slightly different is different and is not subject to copywrite infringement. Most people make things noticeably different, though.
[2007.03.27 20:19:46] Towal: marty are you serious about that?
[2007.03.27 20:19:47] Jolent: I'd do it if the pay was good :)
[2007.03.27 20:19:51] ameriyank: No one at CP deserves a raise more than you , Marty!
[2007.03.27 20:19:54] MartyCP: Towal - about?
[2007.03.27 20:20:04] Towal: people sitting and viewing images all day?
[2007.03.27 20:20:11] MartyCP: Towal - absolutely.
[2007.03.27 20:20:14] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: lol
[2007.03.27 20:20:22] Towal: huh cool...and what a sucky job lol
[2007.03.27 20:20:22] blonde_designs: hey marty...send me the rules.. and the means.....I'LL DO IT
[2007.03.27 20:20:35] refinish69: I have only ever agd one redtagged
[2007.03.27 20:20:44] refinish69: I can not ytpe
[2007.03.27 20:20:45] MartyCP: It's mind-numbing work, but they do it really well, considering the incredible number of images they look at in a day.
[2007.03.27 20:20:56] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: i bet marty is an artificial intelligence. His bonus was likely that new ergonomic keyboard
[2007.03.27 20:21:01] Jolent: too bad we cant do it from our home computers
[2007.03.27 20:21:02] Towal: I think there should be a PENALTY for inapproriate tagging and then some of it would stop. not unintentional mistagging but the blantant ones
[2007.03.27 20:21:02] ShelbyCP: Does anybody have any other questions for me? I need to head home to my baby boy... You can email me at sferraribreen@cafepress.com if I did not answer your questions tonight. Many people asked some great questions and we will have more answers soon.
[2007.03.27 20:21:03] blonde_designs: join the club me either refinish
[2007.03.27 20:21:05] blonde_designs: lol
[2007.03.27 20:21:14] slamdunk: how do we know if someone is tag spamming? zazzle shows the tags that are used right under the design
[2007.03.27 20:21:21] cowpie has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 20:21:23] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: thanks shelby!

[2007.03.27 20:21:25] maryo: Marty's a real intelligence
[2007.03.27 20:21:32] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: I think we know exactly what's going on now
[2007.03.27 20:21:35] UncleFrog: thanks Shelby.
[2007.03.27 20:21:36] Shadow: it'sobvious when you do a search on a set of keywords
[2007.03.27 20:21:38] maryo: thanks for staying Shelby
[2007.03.27 20:21:44] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: and how to best profit from the new program
[2007.03.27 20:22:02] garyoa1: Thanx Shelby. Don't keep the little one waiting. :)
[2007.03.27 20:22:05] MartyCP: Towal -- we want to eliminate inappropriate tagging, but haven't figured out the best way to do it yet. Dunk -- we discussed with shopkeepers the idea of displaying tags with designs, they *hated* it -- they wanted to keep the tags as their intellectual property.
[2007.03.27 20:22:05] ameriyank: I had one red tagged once. I did a large image of the English Flag for a guy and they tagge d it. I couldn't figure out why and when I asked they just quoted the CUP. And I said WHAT part of the CUP does this image come under? Then I was watching an old MASH episode and saw the Red Cross thing & realized my image looked just like it. It was unintentional, but it was the same
[2007.03.27 20:22:09] Fricka: thanks shelby
[2007.03.27 20:22:10] Shadow: bye shelby and thanks
[2007.03.27 20:22:12] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: go home to your child
[2007.03.27 20:22:14] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: and thanks
[2007.03.27 20:22:18] Towal: well when I do a search for "I love my mommy" and the first design that comes up is "this is my fucking costume" I'm pretty sure that is an INTENTIONAL mistag :)
[2007.03.27 20:22:23] UncleFrog: no displaying the tags
[2007.03.27 20:22:27] eutstars: I have never been red tagged.
[2007.03.27 20:22:30] dooni designs: lol
[2007.03.27 20:22:35] Jim: but there are tags I use that people would think were incorrect, yet they are part of the market that buy my designs
[2007.03.27 20:22:38] ameriyank: Towal, good point

[2007.03.27 20:22:56] Shadow: ummm maybe Towal
[2007.03.27 20:22:59] refinish69: I was when I did a design to honor Rosa Parks
[2007.03.27 20:23:13] ShelbyCP: Good night all! Chat with you again soon :)
[2007.03.27 20:23:14] Jolent: I'd like to see a link reporting tag spam...but someone would have to actually look at it and that would be a lot of man hours with as much spamming as there is
[2007.03.27 20:23:15] MartyCP: Jim, that's why we haven't picked a solution yet. It needs to be a very open-minded, intelligent system, that probably involves people (and therefore costs money, time and resources).
[2007.03.27 20:23:18] ShelbyCP has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 20:23:19] Towal: and yes that is a true example and yes I have the screenshots to prove it (it's been resolved since then however). I bet I could find 50 more like it within an hour of searchign though
[2007.03.27 20:23:26] refinish69: so I only do elected officials unless I have permission
[2007.03.27 20:23:28] ameriyank: Oh yes, I got red tagged for a Rosa Parks one, too. I forgot about that.
[2007.03.27 20:23:29] RowdyJRT: Hi all
[2007.03.27 20:23:29] blonde_designs: and in the tags all i put is "offensive and expliciot"
[2007.03.27 20:23:33] refinish69: brb

[2007.03.27 20:23:41] Shadow: somehow I think you have better things to do Towal
[2007.03.27 20:23:47] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: tag spam control will first require a change to policy. currently it's "think like a shopper" and "here's what other people are using"
[2007.03.27 20:23:52] blonde_designs has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 20:23:53] scarebaby has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 20:23:55] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: both of which are bad, bad, bad
[2007.03.27 20:24:01] dooni designs: ok i got a tag/category question...... when ur tagging and u pick a category, does it go in THAT category or the the category you pick when you actually make the section.. or BOTH???
[2007.03.27 20:24:05] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: don't share my tags
[2007.03.27 20:24:09] blonde_designs: AND I KEEP GETTIN BOOTED!!
[2007.03.27 20:24:15] Jim: Marty, your participation is appeciated. If Fred would actually face the music like you do, it would be of benefit to CP.
[2007.03.27 20:24:22] slamdunk: yes... 'here's what other's are using' should be eliminated right away... no need to keep it there
[2007.03.27 20:24:22] MartyCP: Yes, Carl, it's a much bigger problem.
[2007.03.27 20:24:40] refinish69 has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 20:24:42] Towal: I do, but it looks bad for EVERYONE so if it would help, I would take an hour out of my day everyday and do searches for FREE just to get it stopped
[2007.03.27 20:24:44] MartyCP: To be honest, Fred would love to.
[2007.03.27 20:24:44] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: can we refer to the new initiative as "SMARTY?"
[2007.03.27 20:24:48] danesrus: my business id and domain name are being used by tags as others - will there be a way to stop that? CUP now says too bad for you.
[2007.03.27 20:24:49] wells has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 20:24:50] ShelfLife: YES and that #$@%! "other people are using" gives other shopkeepers the benefit of MY research. I HATE IT and consider it UNFAIR ENRICHMENT.

[2007.03.27 20:25:02] Jim: Right, Fred shld be at chats like the last 2 days and he is MIA
[2007.03.27 20:25:07] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: I've been told when you are tagging the 'catagory' dropdown is not used... is that really the case?
[2007.03.27 20:25:09] Fricka: gnite all, thanks again for staying late marty!
[2007.03.27 20:25:15] MartyCP: Night, Fricka.
[2007.03.27 20:25:19] Shadow: night Frika
[2007.03.27 20:25:20] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: cya fricka
[2007.03.27 20:25:23] wells: hey, does anyone here know if you can integrate a store into a company site?
[2007.03.27 20:25:24] ameriyank: LOL Carl
[2007.03.27 20:25:25] tanith has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 20:25:25] UncleFrog: the "here's what others are using" is good if CP wants to corral tags to build portals and such ... I can see a reason for doing that
[2007.03.27 20:25:26] blonde_designs: byes fricka.
[2007.03.27 20:25:29] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: thanks for signing the petition, fricka
[2007.03.27 20:25:30] slamdunk: shelf... I've noticed the same problem with my tags!
[2007.03.27 20:25:38] MartyCP: Wells -- that would be a cpshop (or related script) thing.
[2007.03.27 20:25:41] Fricka has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 20:25:50] Towal: I also HATE that there are tag "suggestions". If you aren't capable of figuring out how to tag your image..tough cookies (if we could have cookies) :P
[2007.03.27 20:25:52] wells: where can i find more info about that?
[2007.03.27 20:26:01] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: lol
[2007.03.27 20:26:01] ameriyank: Wells, use Marty's cpShop to integrate
[2007.03.27 20:26:03] Towal: I had to change my "special" tag because people started using it
[2007.03.27 20:26:06] MartyCP: It's just not an option for Fred to be in all the chats -- that's why we have other people working here. He's go soooo many things to do.
[2007.03.27 20:26:13] i'm still sick: I never even look at the suggestions others are using
[2007.03.27 20:26:19] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: I've been told when you are tagging the 'catagory' dropdown is not used... is that really the case?
[2007.03.27 20:26:20] ShelfLife: Amen, Towal.
[2007.03.27 20:26:28] wells: where is this cpshop thing?
[2007.03.27 20:26:32] blonde_designs: good q dea
[2007.03.27 20:26:34] Jim: Marty, thats true but sometimes even the bigshots should have to face the little people who pay the bills
[2007.03.27 20:26:34] Shadow: www.marty.net
[2007.03.27 20:26:36] blonde_designs: dae*
[2007.03.27 20:26:41] danesrus: towal - I have my business name and domain in use by others -those were my special tags.
[2007.03.27 20:26:41] Towal: now I use towal and NO ONE has reason to use that but me (and so far they haven't), but if they start I will be screaming about it loudly every day until it's stopped :P
[2007.03.27 20:26:42] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: i don't either. I tag for phrases. single word searches are too glutted
[2007.03.27 20:26:42] eutstars: I think the suggestions are helpful with some designs.
[2007.03.27 20:26:49] Romy has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 20:26:52] garyoa1: The suggestions help actually. Sometimes I"m reaching for that certain word.
[2007.03.27 20:26:53] UncleFrog: I'm pretty sure the dropdown catagory DOES count as a tag
[2007.03.27 20:26:59] ameriyank: http://www.marty.net will get you CPshop info
[2007.03.27 20:27:05] wells: are there any free alternatives?
[2007.03.27 20:27:09] ShelfLife: Yes, eutstars, but you are benefitting from the work of OTHER shopkeepers.
[2007.03.27 20:27:21] MartyCP: The dropdown category is a tag, yes.
[2007.03.27 20:27:22] ShelfLife: I say everyone should do their own homework.
[2007.03.27 20:27:31] Towal: I agree shelflife
[2007.03.27 20:27:32] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: thanks marty.
[2007.03.27 20:27:48] Towal: or in the alternative we should be able to designate ONE tag (per store) that is NEVER shown
[2007.03.27 20:27:49] ShelfLife: I didn't give CP permisssion to share my private business data with my competitors.
[2007.03.27 20:27:50] Shadow: homework... yuck
[2007.03.27 20:27:51] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: yes. our tags are chosen by trial and elimination... we lose sales so we can optimise.
[2007.03.27 20:27:58] eutstars: But if the tag fits the design and you are searching for that right word, then the suggestions are helpful.
[2007.03.27 20:28:03] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: I admit.. when I have a migraine, I still work... but I look at the suggestions because my brain is braindead.
[2007.03.27 20:28:04] Towal: so we can have one special tag that no one else can pick up from the suggestions pile
[2007.03.27 20:28:07] foxvox: Am going to have to call it a night too. Thanks again, Marty! You're a gem. :-D Bye All.

[2007.03.27 20:28:26] ameriyank: I have to get going too to get ready for my dinner.
[2007.03.27 20:28:27] i'm still sick: lol, I couldn't rely on others' suggestions when it comes to tags. Typically, i have a hard enough time limiting my own tag ideas to the 20 we're allowed
[2007.03.27 20:28:29] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: I only use APPLICABLE suggestions though.
[2007.03.27 20:28:30] ShelfLife: eutstarsL sorry, but tough luck if you can't do your own research.
[2007.03.27 20:28:33] ameriyank: Marty you are a SAINT
[2007.03.27 20:28:37] kippy: yeah, bed is calling. Staying up until 4am for last night's chat made today exhausting! I can't believe I'm still up
[2007.03.27 20:28:44] scarebaby: no one better be using scarebaby as a tag LOL
[2007.03.27 20:28:45] NinaPa: yes, people use our "special" tag too, but we added it specifically so we could make topic ads that showed just our products. Now that's no longer necessary
[2007.03.27 20:28:47] kippy: Thanks so much Marty for all your time
[2007.03.27 20:28:48] eutstars: Same here, nothing that doesn't fit the design.
[2007.03.27 20:28:52] ameriyank: night all,
[2007.03.27 20:28:56] ameriyank: thanks, marty!
[2007.03.27 20:28:57] UncleFrog: I use scarebaby as a tag
[2007.03.27 20:29:01] UncleFrog: ;)
[2007.03.27 20:29:03] scarebaby: nooooo...i never use ribbit

[2007.03.27 20:29:09] MartyCP: You're all welcome. I was a shopkeeper way before I was a CP employee, so I want to make sure everyone's happy (including me).
[2007.03.27 20:29:17] UncleFrog: I never use ribbit either ;)
[2007.03.27 20:29:19] Towal: I use my special tag or a vareity of reasons..one was topic adds
[2007.03.27 20:29:23] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: the deal is: if you are FORCED to think like a shopper and tag your designs yourself, then you are FORCED to design FOR shoppers.

[2007.03.27 20:29:41] i'm still sick: So then if we're using "special" tags, as many of you have said, which don't necessarily actually relate to your designs, how do you distinguish that from "tag spam"

[2007.03.27 20:29:45] NinaPa: thanks, Marty!

[2007.03.27 20:30:00] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: marty, let us know if you sell special buttons!
[2007.03.27 20:30:00] Towal: one is keeping an eye on the marketplace because it goes belly up every once in a while and because I know exactly what I should have showing I catch it very early and can let ang know to talk to "the team" about it
[2007.03.27 20:30:01] Romy: every sale I've made in the last 2 days is cited as coming from the marketplace, including the purchase I made myself from my store
[2007.03.27 20:30:03] Jolent has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 20:30:14] scarebaby: Romy I was just going to ask that.
[2007.03.27 20:30:20] scarebaby: It's clearly obviously incorrect
[2007.03.27 20:30:21] MP has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 20:30:25] scarebaby: and I wish it would get fixed
[2007.03.27 20:30:27] Towal: because no one in the public is doing a search on "towal" sick
[2007.03.27 20:30:31] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: an "I heart bob" design doesn't cater to the funny, humor, attitude crowd... no matter how popular the tag, you're only screwing yourself
[2007.03.27 20:30:36] MartyCP: We'd be careful with the tag spam thing -- if you were using a special tag, it'd probably be pretty obvious. Unless you're using "anti-bush" as your special tag on a kitten design, or something like that.
[2007.03.27 20:30:49] UncleFrog: "special tags" ... for instance scarebaby ... is different than tag spam because that special tag means something for that design. Tag spam has nothing to do with the design.
[2007.03.27 20:30:53] ShelfLife: Marty said earlier that they're working on the marketplace as source for eveything issue.
[2007.03.27 20:30:53] Shadow: Carl.. be honest...how much of my $1253 in returns are yours?
[2007.03.27 20:30:56] danesrus: no but if towal looks like it's getting top nothc ranks in the market place people will start using it
[2007.03.27 20:30:58] MartyCP: Marketplace report bug -- already being worked on.
[2007.03.27 20:30:59] Jolent: did I miss much? my computer gave me the finger...I mean the blue screen and dumped me :(
[2007.03.27 20:31:00] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: lol
[2007.03.27 20:31:01] MartyCP: Thanks Shelflife.
[2007.03.27 20:31:04] scarebaby: thanks Shelflife
[2007.03.27 20:31:04] i'm still sick: I mean, I used to tag images with my shop name, which i don't use anymore (and it isn't my shop name anymore), but by the "tag spam" rule, by using the animal's name in my tags, i could have been violating that rule? (could i have worded that any poorer?)
[2007.03.27 20:31:11] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: i've never returned anything in my life.
[2007.03.27 20:31:14] scarebaby: thanks Marty

[2007.03.27 20:31:53] Towal: why would it? no one but me is searching on it and I am not buying from that search. if my name somehow becauses a top search term I better be getting rich off it :P
[2007.03.27 20:31:57] scarebaby: i had a refer return today though - lost $1.06
[2007.03.27 20:31:59] Romy: Thanks, Marty
[2007.03.27 20:32:05] UncleFrog: just think about what was left, Shadow ... you rocked!
[2007.03.27 20:32:05] Shadow: That number still annoys me though
[2007.03.27 20:32:21] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: shadow, i wonder if it's the market demographics. too bad you don't know more about those who purchase your designs
[2007.03.27 20:32:26] Shadow: i Know uncle frog...that was a black eye on the month
[2007.03.27 20:32:27] dooni designs: towal is a typo for towel :P
[2007.03.27 20:32:35] eutstars: I hate it when people put adult content in the children's section.
[2007.03.27 20:32:43] Towal: I doubt there are many people searching for towel either though

[2007.03.27 20:32:50] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: agreed eutstars
[2007.03.27 20:32:50] danesrus: well you do have other tags? if one of your SEARCHABLE tags gets HOT then your related tag towal will be displayed at the top as a related thing
[2007.03.27 20:32:57] Shadow: I emailed Angela but there was just too much to look at
[2007.03.27 20:33:01] MartyCP: When we mean tag spam, we mean a picture of a dog, with "sex, porn, bush, obama, hillary" as the tags.
[2007.03.27 20:33:07] MartyCP: Stuff like that.
[2007.03.27 20:33:16] scarebaby: who has room for that when you only have 20 tags??
[2007.03.27 20:33:20] scarebaby: its just silly
[2007.03.27 20:33:23] Towal: people still aren't going to search on it. no one even knows what it is unless they know me :P
[2007.03.27 20:33:25] MartyCP: But lots of people do it.
[2007.03.27 20:33:29] Romy: unless the dog looks like Bush (poor dog...)
[2007.03.27 20:33:31] MartyCP: It just irks me to no end.
[2007.03.27 20:33:32] eutstars: exactly. That is annoying. If I want Bush stuff, I will look up Bush.
[2007.03.27 20:33:38] scarebaby: it's got to be impossible to police
[2007.03.27 20:33:49] blonde_designs: ew to think of a dog w/those tags makes me puke in my mouth a liol
[2007.03.27 20:33:50] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: what if i have a sexy picture of hillary, obama, and george bush - all of them naked atop a huge dog?
[2007.03.27 20:33:52] i'm still sick: ohh, i see what you're saying.
[2007.03.27 20:33:53] blonde_designs: lil too
[2007.03.27 20:34:01] UncleFrog: I've been in sales a long time, Shadow. Now I don't give the commission number much emotional involvement until I see it in my hands. It's a hard habit to develop. Even harder to mind the wisdom. You still have a rockin' run there!
[2007.03.27 20:34:08] MartyCP: I'm really going to push for a solution to tag spam. We've already finally started talking about it -- I think we're going to have a chat scheduled to solicit ideas from the community.
[2007.03.27 20:34:10] scarebaby: Carl then you just tag it SICKO
[2007.03.27 20:34:12] scarebaby: LOL
[2007.03.27 20:34:13] ShelfLife: MARTY: Has CP given any consideration to eliminating the suggested tags feature? A number of us feel it's unfair to shopkeepers who do all their own research on tags
[2007.03.27 20:34:14] danesrus: not eveybody knows what danesrus is and not many search first for it but now there are more images in the marketplace with that tag that aren'tmine than are.
[2007.03.27 20:34:14] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: lol

[2007.03.27 20:34:29] MartyCP: And we need a solution to the non-kid-friendly designs issue too.
[2007.03.27 20:34:29] Romy: Then they're going to nail you just on general principles, Carl! lol
[2007.03.27 20:34:36] Shadow: I asked about a tier 5 or tier 6 this mionth..... I don't think it is going to happen though
[2007.03.27 20:34:50] Towal: I bet there would be people that would VOLUNTEER some time to help police it. I would...specially now that I don't have to worry about affiliate stuff :P
[2007.03.27 20:35:02] Romy: Dont' think so Shadow, in fact, I'm on to the next disaster already.
[2007.03.27 20:35:03] scarebaby: I would
[2007.03.27 20:35:07] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: i agree marty - if the marketplace is going to get the meat of all traffic now, it's in everyone's best interest to grab those shoppers with the most relevent designs
[2007.03.27 20:35:09] blonde_designs: marty...i use rated r and offensive when not kid friendly is that good or no?
[2007.03.27 20:35:12] i'm still sick: well, anyway, as my name suggests, i'm still sick and i should get to bed. thanks for your help, everyone. Especially MARTY. :)
[2007.03.27 20:35:18] Jolent: even eliminating the suggested tags feature will not stop tag spammers
[2007.03.27 20:35:19] eutstars: I must be tagging wrong.I use basic tags that describe the designs.
[2007.03.27 20:35:20] MartyCP: Shelflife -- not yet, but everything about tags will be reconsidered. It's a big, big problem, and my guess is that the suggestions will likely go away. But that's just a guess.
[2007.03.27 20:35:23] blonde_designs: byes sick muahzz
[2007.03.27 20:35:24] slamdunk: even for the dogs as an example... if it's a lab design, it shouldn't have other breeds as tags, only tags like dog, puppy, pet, etc... not fair to put poodle and take away fromthe search on labs
[2007.03.27 20:35:24] i'm still sick has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 20:35:40] ShelfLife: Okay, thanks for the info.
[2007.03.27 20:35:56] MartyCP: Dunk -- I agree.
[2007.03.27 20:35:58] slamdunk: I'd volunteer to police.... you wouldn't believe the hundreds of designs I got deleted from zazzle for copyright violations
[2007.03.27 20:36:00] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: i'll miss the suggestions when my migraines hit. :(
[2007.03.27 20:36:03] garyoa1: Marty, if you have folks screening uploads, can't they somehow flag some to check where they are actually being placed? For the R or X rated I mean.
[2007.03.27 20:36:16] Shadow: what happens when these CJ affiliates search the marketplace and can't find anything they are searching for?
[2007.03.27 20:36:24] blonde_designs: slam i'd use labrador retriever, working dog, labs....ect.
[2007.03.27 20:36:37] MartyCP: Gary -- it's a workflow issue. Every thing they have to check for slows down the process. And comparing tags to images would slow them down a *lot*.
[2007.03.27 20:36:42] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: if you're a part of the community and can read, you'll eventually be a decent tagger. if you're a complete noob brought in by the hype in the press releases... you're on your own. you do stupid stuff
[2007.03.27 20:36:51] garyoa1: Yeah I hear ya.
[2007.03.27 20:37:13] garyoa1: But I mean just the pics themselves.
[2007.03.27 20:37:28] ShelfLife: Okay, I just learned that my chat limit is 2 hours, 36 minutes.

[2007.03.27 20:37:38] eutstars: Can I show you guys my new design? I tagged it with basic tags. maybe some suggestions for tagging it?
[2007.03.27 20:37:40] Shadow: night Shelf
[2007.03.27 20:37:44] Shopaholic Chick: marty i have a CPshop question

[2007.03.27 20:37:49] slamdunk: right blonde... but too many people don't follow that
[2007.03.27 20:37:50] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: marty. Start by having tagging policies that have to be read and agreed too under penalty... that will reduce NEW tag spam... THEN figure out a way to enforce it!
[2007.03.27 20:37:51] Romy: night
[2007.03.27 20:37:59] Jolent: what about having volunteer tag moderators who can do some work from home, then on the worst tag spam, send an email to cp with all info, cp can then send a basic email and ask that the tags be removed?
[2007.03.27 20:38:07] UncleFrog: One of the best linking strategies (IMHO) was a text link contained in an article that pointed directly to a product page for ordering. The affiliates who didn't offer this option didn't convert well. Sounds like the CP/CJ linking stucture will allow this, eh?
[2007.03.27 20:38:26] GYG has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 20:38:41] MartyCP: Gary, I think we'll need some kind of solution, and it may involve the screeners. But it'll also probably mean we'll need to hire more people, which means more office space, and interface changes to the software they use, and...you get the idea. That's why we're talking about it first. We want to be sure we do the right thing.
[2007.03.27 20:38:53] RowdyJRT has left the room (logged out)
[2007.03.27 20:39:04] MartyCP: Frog -- Yes it will. Deep linking is a-okay.
[2007.03.27 20:39:16] MartyCP: Jolent -- that'll be one of the ideas we'll discuss.
[2007.03.27 20:39:26] MartyCP: (Though it comes with its own set of potential issues.)
[2007.03.27 20:39:30] UncleFrog: and be able to write the text themselves, Marty? That was best for a deep linking strategy.
[2007.03.27 20:39:43] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: But MARTY.. if you START by figuring out policies and penalties, it will start doing a LITTLE good before you can even do anything about it!
[2007.03.27 20:39:50] slamdunk: especially with the new program... it's not fair for the lab designs to be bumped down several pages because of poodles, for example. Then the properly tagged stuff may not get noticed
[2007.03.27 20:39:57] Towal: I think if there was a penatly people would stop to some extent. If you knew that if you PURPOSELY mistagged your items were banned from the marketplace for 30 days (or 60 or 90 or permanaent if you continued) you'd think twice about doing it
[2007.03.27 20:40:03] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: that way people will know it isn't kosher and will quit doing it.
[2007.03.27 20:40:12] GYG has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 20:40:23] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: no need to actually be able to enforce it yet.
[2007.03.27 20:40:27] MartyCP: Daedreem - an update to the tagging policy is a must, but it also has to be much more obvious. Right now, teaching good tag etiquette is really tough. There's just so many things to *learn* at CafePress, it's hard to not overwhelm people.
[2007.03.27 20:40:29] UncleFrog: lol
[2007.03.27 20:40:30] dooni designs: tagpolice@ cafepress.com LOL
[2007.03.27 20:40:31] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: i agree with daedream... kinda like shelby's "we have methods in place to identify self-affiliation." ;)
[2007.03.27 20:40:32] eutstars: So, anyone want to help me with tags on my new design? I don't know if it showing in the marketplace yet or not.
[2007.03.27 20:40:32] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: (but asap yes)
[2007.03.27 20:40:59] Jolent: Marty, when I used to be a gamer...I signed up to be a guide online for players within the game...it was all volunteer, but there were lots who signed up for it......I think if there was chance for us to volunteer time as a tag moderator a couple hours a week you would have a lot of us doing it
[2007.03.27 20:41:02] MartyCP: Dunk, I still totally agree.
[2007.03.27 20:41:49] UncleFrog: one has to be carefull when using volunteer time to do corporate work
[2007.03.27 20:42:04] UncleFrog: I would think
[2007.03.27 20:42:17] garyoa1: Yeah spam tagging is not fun. I know I have a bunch in my niche showing up that should never be there. Not good for me, not good for the customer, not good for CP
[2007.03.27 20:42:32] MartyCP: Towal, I'd love to have a policy like that, but we also have to be really careful with something like banning -- what if it's a typo, or just a misunderstanding? What if someone takes a picture of a tree, and adds "bush" to their keywords, and comes up for Bush search results? It's just tricky. We need to be smart, careful, and decisive, all at the same time.
[2007.03.27 20:42:37] slamdunk: i agree gary
[2007.03.27 20:42:59] Towal: well there are OBVIOUS ones..like the ones I mentioned before
[2007.03.27 20:43:09] blonde_designs: marty does (stupid question) that happen often?
[2007.03.27 20:43:10] UncleFrog: the tag spamming solution would therefore be a series of steps
[2007.03.27 20:43:14] Towal: and I think those DESERVE punishment because they clearly knew what they were doing
[2007.03.27 20:43:22] Towal: I'm not talking about slang and the like
[2007.03.27 20:43:22] Jolent: my thought would be that volunteers sign up with cp for the specific tag thing....if we see something tagged wrong, we would have a special link to send the image and the tags to CP, who could then look at them, then email something out....no one would be changing tags but the shopkeeper
[2007.03.27 20:43:33] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: it might not help, eutstars - you have to identify your market. once you do, use words and phrases they might use in the search box. after that, go for other markets that might not convert as well. you wouldn't tag a print for seniors as "cool cat painting"
[2007.03.27 20:43:48] Shadow: maybe a better thing is to do is explain to them they will get more sales if they tag properly
[2007.03.27 20:43:49] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: you can use a 3 strikes system for obvious abusers..
[2007.03.27 20:43:55] Towal: I'm talking about people that have I (heart) designs that tag them all valentine's day right before that holiday or tagging all your designs mother's day because taht holiday is coming up etc
[2007.03.27 20:44:04] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: something a little nicer for accidental ones
[2007.03.27 20:44:08] eutstars: http://www.cafepress.com/allcreative/2759177 This is the design.
[2007.03.27 20:44:17] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: like a rolling period for the 3 strikes.
[2007.03.27 20:44:23] blonde_designs: i mean like i said i have many dog designs in my store...and never EVER did i put stuff like doggie style or anything its not right
[2007.03.27 20:44:25] Towal: I have I heart designs and they do not come up in EVERY possible search you can make :P
[2007.03.27 20:44:28] MartyCP: Towal - I'm not disagreeing at all. Deliberate tag spammers should be penalized. I don't know what our policy will end up being on that, but I will be advocating a penalty for the real offenders.
[2007.03.27 20:44:46] Jolent: towal....that would be borderline tag spam....but many are really off key to the image, those at least could be focused on
[2007.03.27 20:44:55] Towal: I am not suggesting lynching people taht are new and get confused ;)
[2007.03.27 20:44:59] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: that's a good start, marty
[2007.03.27 20:45:21] eutstars: And these are my tags: brown,bunnies,bunny,bunny lover,bunny rabbit,cute,ears,easter,eggs,fuzzy,happy easter,hare,pink,purple,rabbit,rabbit lover,rabbits,wreath
[2007.03.27 20:45:28] blonde_designs: towal im new but i even know the diff
[2007.03.27 20:45:39] eutstars: Anything I am doing wrong with the tagging?
[2007.03.27 20:45:59] debzero has entered the room "The Lobby"
[2007.03.27 20:46:06] Towal: you don't need singular and plurals as long as it's just an s
[2007.03.27 20:46:09] UncleFrog: A staged solution might be good ... Even if the program only fixes the most eggregious offenses, that could reinforce that bad behaviour is bad
[2007.03.27 20:46:09] Shadow: you are infringing on my bunny trademark
[2007.03.27 20:46:09] slamdunk: you can also use phrases like "easter wreath"
[2007.03.27 20:46:17] Jolent: Marty, I would say that for tag spammers, they would have to receive emails, maybe listing a pic and tags, with cp tag regulations, asking that certain tags be removed.....over a period of time, consistend repeat offenders then could have some kind of penalty
[2007.03.27 20:46:20] Towal: so just putting rabbits will work and save you a tag
[2007.03.27 20:46:21] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: i know of several shops (i watch them because they've copied me) who'll tag EVERYTHING in their shop based on buzz. like "IDOL" during american idol, "GLOBAL WARMING" when the buzz is high, etc
[2007.03.27 20:46:28] blonde_designs: eut great tags for that design i think
[2007.03.27 20:46:33] Towal: for bunny you need bunny and bunnies though
[2007.03.27 20:46:53] Shadow: My new shirt "Global Warming is my Idol" welll....I'm cold
[2007.03.27 20:46:56] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: lol
[2007.03.27 20:46:59] Shopaholic Chick: abs those people should be hog tied and wiped

[2007.03.27 20:47:17] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: I have a 'proud texan' design that's tagged [bush] but it fits. :) http://www.cafepress.com/catscratches/1796343
[2007.03.27 20:47:21] MartyCP: I think we've beaten the tag spam topic to death -- was there anything else you guys wanted to cover? I'm still pretty hungry, and my stomach is kinda upset from the junk food lunch.
[2007.03.27 20:47:30] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: i agree shopa. they might snag one sale out of spamming... when they'd snag dozens out of proper tagging
[2007.03.27 20:47:34] blonde_designs: lol we know thats not me shop cuz i suck at tagging
[2007.03.27 20:47:35] MartyCP: Chips & M&Ms...bad idea...

[2007.03.27 20:47:42] eutstars: What is trademarked? bunny lover? I used that for my mom so she could find it--she is a bunny lover.

[2007.03.27 20:47:59] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: i'm satisfied all of my questions are answered
[2007.03.27 20:48:01] Towal: I have seen people that change the title of their page for a store that is about say bunnies. the title will be like Free Katie-Obama-Bush-War in IRAQ
[2007.03.27 20:48:05] garyoa1: Take off Marty. You've been great!
[2007.03.27 20:48:06] MartyCP: Shadow -- what did you mean?

[2007.03.27 20:48:20] MartyCP: You can embed cpshop in a php page, but cpshop is written in Perl.

[2007.03.27 20:50:49] Carl (the irritating Absolute Co...: it could be your tagging, or it could be a slowdown. if it's catering to a small niche, a slowdown can hurt worse
[2007.03.27 20:50:54] daedreem_catscratches_Hatesthene...: Everyone, don't forget you can link your shop in my forum at catscratches.net :)

[2007.03.27 20:54:02] Shopaholic Chick: eut look at your design and then describe it like you would tell a blind person about it
